This rule has served me well, but then for me a vehicle is nothing more than a method of safely getting from point A to point B. I hold cars for 10 years or longer. Car repairs in general are far cheaper than the monthly payment. The trigger for me is when the car is in the shop too often for my own threshold of nuisance or it cannot be repaired to a safe condition. Vehicles have gotten more reliable and rust less so maybe I should revise my rule.

I have no problem with buying gas and oil, but once they need new tires and or brakes, it's time for a new car.
It's kind of like women, they are more than welcome to come over and stay a while, but the moment they need a change of clothes, it's time for them to go home. lol
because that's the stupidest thing I ever heard anyone say about tires. Hey if you want to trade your M6 in after 10,000 miles have at it. Plus you won't have to change the oil.
