The point of the "Viva La Revolucion" posts was to show how the Democratic takeover of Congress wouldn't mean anything with the current leadership of Nancy and Harry. As stated by right-wing pundits as well as the liberal members of this board, the Democrat's strategy is to sit back and blame Bush for everything to win back the White House in 2008.

Well this is getting alarming.  We actually need the two houses of congress to chime in a little.  Harry Reid has just stated that we shouldn't attack Iran even though we have proof of them supplying the Taliban with arms to kill our soldiers. Fine. Then what should we do Harry?  Please give us an alternative other than saying "Bush is wrong".  If it's diplomacy or sanctions or the UN then give us some details...Anything!!!

I'm not interested in blaming Bush or Clinton or Carter, etc. (as I've been reading on other websites).  As of 2007 we have a volatile situation with Iran and Bush is the Pres, Nancy is the Speaker, and Harry is the Senate Majority Leader. Two of those three "leaders" have nothing to say other than "Don't do what Bush wants".  Please give us an alternative vision of leadership on this issue to help bring an actual solution.  

Limbaugh and Coulter and others repeat their mantra that the Democratic party stands for nothing other than pursuing their own power.  I wish Harry and Nancy would prove them wrong by taking action as opposed to sitting on their hands and blaming Bush.

am an American. I live in the United States and my allegiance is to the U.S. of A. not Israel. We were attacked by Al Qaeda. We know that Iran is not supplying arms to Al Qaeda because they hate each other. That is all that matters to me. I do not want to invade Ireland or the Basque region of Spain or Palestine because those terrorists really do not have much to do with the security of my country which happens to be the USA. Maybe you should post on the provider politics board in Israel so that you can convince people whose problem it is to do something about.

By the way, everyone knew that Saddam Hussein had WMD except he didn't. If "everyone" knows that Iran is arming terrorists they'd actually show some evidence.

We enlist Paris Hilton as ambassador to Iran.  She gets there, and proceeds to do what she does best.  I mean, she gives these guys the best BBBJ in the world... they get happy and quit supplying arms and supplies to the insurgents in Iraq.  Then, mission completed there, they, in their gratitude go after Bin laden and return him to us.  Paris is punished for 'whatever' and we capture Bin laden, and Iraq is domesticated.

As for Israel, we send Jimmy Carter there as ambassador, he gives them all his special "fuck the israelis" and they too become happy...

Iran is Shi'ite. The Taliban are Sunnis. Don't under-estimate the differences between those two.

Not only are the Taliban Sunnis, but a they are a sect Sunnis that think anybody who disagrees with them is worthy of death. The Mullahs in Iran have a totally different vision of the Islamic Revolution that the Taliban's Jihad.

Not only that, when I look at Afghanistan on the map, I could see a lot of countries around it where arms might be smuggled in. I mean there's Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Pakistan.  All of these are Sunni countries.

Moreover, see the map below. If any of those countries supply arms to any of those warlords, any of those warlords could then supply the Taliban.  

You don't cite the evidence that Iran is doing this. I'm not saying there isn't any, but I think it should be held to more stringent standards of evidence than the bullshit that Saddam Hussein was helping Al-Qaeda and that he had WMD's. Hint: if they are the same people who "proved" Saddam was in league with al-Qaeda, you should probably drop them into the Taliban region.

The other problem is practical: how are we going to attack Iran? It isn't like Iraq. It has five times the population, a hard terrain, with demographics that will allow them to put a huge fighting force into the field. We don't have the soldiers. Air assault? Over that large an area?  Forget it!

Fighting them could only mean nuking them. That will be will be ruinous to us than to Iran.

NOTHING!!  Iran is doing nothing wrong.  Iraq was never a threat and the only country in the region WITHOUT terrorist ties.  Al-Qaeda officials never met with Sadaam personally.  There were no terrorist training camps found in Iraq.  If Israel blows up tomorrow it doesn't affect us at all.  So let's do nothing.

Carter did nothing and created the first Islamo-Fascist regime.  Clinton did nothing and let Al-Qaeda grow into a worldwide orginization that attacked American soil twice.  Let's follow that wonderful strategy.

BTW, I didn't say invade and occupy Iran.  We could just bomb the living shit out of them.  Like Clinton used to arbitrarily do (If we pretend it is Kosovo then it will be a wonderful thing).  Better yet, we should let our enemies do whatever the hell they want and we can be like Harry and Nancy and pretend like nothing is happening.  After all, the real threat is global warming.

We bomb them and they move into Iraq where they are attacking our soldiers, so if we're not invading, we might as well be. They have the advantage there of short supply lines and far superior numbers.

For bombing, see what I said above. Iran is not like Serbia. You have a vast region to bomb. They aren't going to learn a lesson from it, and unlike Serbia, there's nothing for them to "give up." We have to take their words that they are sorry, really. Yes, bombing has been known to make people contrite.

Moreover, as I said, I can't see any evidence that they are supplying anything to the Taliban. I consider that to be an extraordinary claim requiring extraordinary evidence. The Taliban are the sort of people who would IMMEDIATELY SHOOT a Shi'ite who gives them a gun.

It might not occur to you that Iran has worse enemies than the US and Israel-- only not as dangerous. Islam has deep ancient divisions, and highly resented differences in doctrine.

What we have to do with Iran: reopen relations and negotiate. That's it. We've made them the superior power in the region. Israel is just going to have to deal with that.
