Allow me to start by saying I'm a fairly recent transplant from the North Coast of Ohio to the Deep South. If you know anything about the Deep South you'll no doubt know that it's the Bible belt. I'm not a man of faith, but I don't fault anyone else for their religious beliefs, I just don't have any myself. One of the first thing someone down here will ask you when you meet them is "what church do you go to"? I always tell them I haven't found one yet, truth is I'm not looking. I made the unthinkable mistake of saying to someone recently who was talking about Satan, "I don't believe in Satan", wow you'd thought that I'd taken their Gods name in vain. Anyway there I go off on a tangent again.
What I find amusing, my bay window looks down the road towards a Church at the corner of my street, not real close but close enough that I can see the comings and goings and the parking usually spills over to the street encroaching my house. So, on a lazy Sunday like today when I'm lounging around the house, I see them all coming to the church (twice a day) and it reminds me of ants scurrying around an ant hill. It amazes me that they do this twice a day on Sunday. It seems like a waste of gas, energy and time to go twice on Sunday (I mean if you had more to say why not say it while were here in the morning), but I do find it comical that they scurry around like that. I will say, I respect them for their conviction and commitment. I'll admit that the church being that close to my house will help the resale of my home once I'm done with this tour because that's how fanatical they are about church down here that it's walking distance (my realtor mentioned it a couple of times during the home buying process, little did she know). So, I wonder if it's ever been a temptation of any of you guys when someone is going off on a religious rant to say "oh, by the way I see Escorts"? Of course you wouldn't but I sometimes want to, especially some of my peers at work, one of which is a Deacon at his church. I'm so bad. What I find amusing, my bay window looks down the road towards a Church at the corner of my street, not real close but close enough that I can see the comings and goings and the parking usually spills over to the street encroaching my house. Why would anyone discuss their personal business with someone else. No wonder some loose mouth shit heads gets into all kinds of trouble.
Are you one of them who, can’t keep their trap shut?
I mean honestly, what are they going to do me? I don't need or want their approval, quite frankly religious pukes annoy the fuck out of me and if simply blurting out that I fuck hookers would get rid of them I would be more than happy to do so.
Keep in mind that I have lived in the Bible Belt for decades, once upon a time I let those bullies push me around to a certain extent by not broaching certain subjects or by doing what you do when asked what church I go to. FWIW when asked that question today I simply respond that I don't go to church if they seem like nice people, or I respond that I think church is ridiculously stupid if i think they are the pushy type. I am perfectly capable of "live and let live" but only if I get the same respect and religious pukes are incapable of doing so. I guess I should add that by "religious pukes" I don't mean all religious people, just the ones that can't suppress the urge to try and ram their religion down my throat, I am no longer as polite as I once was, I am sure that is a shock to everyone here. lmao
I have some friends that attend church 3 and 4 times on Sundays. Others attend almost every day while some go several times per week. Having said that I would venture that most of those you've witnessed were not the same people attending multiple times on a Sunday. Rather than investing in capital improvements to church size as congregations increase most simply offer additional services in the morning and sometimes in the evening.
we can start talking about respect.
The talk here ridiculing religion is just a slight pushback against centuries of religious oppression against those of us who simply wanted freedom FROM religion.
and quite frankly religion is so patently ridiculous it's hard NOT to make fun of them.
I was simply pointing out his hypocrisy, claiming to respect someone before you start landing blows. Make fun of someone all you want (although his example here was deeply flawed), just don't start out the sentence with "I respect you."
which presumably none of them will ever see, and inviting yourself into their home to tell them how wrong they are. I think he is giving them a LOT more respect than they give nonbelievers by saying what he has to say here, and not to their faces.
BTW I just went back and reread his post, not only did he not start off his sentence with "I respect you" , but he never said those words anywhere in his entire OP I will chalk this up as being an "honest mistake" the only other conclusion would be that you made an outright lie to bolster your point, just like Willy and all the other liberals do to you. but I have way to much respect for you to accuse you of doing such a thing. So please tell me this was an HONEST mistake on your part.
Is that close enough?
I know you have no respect for nearly all (if not all) Christians and normally I keep my mouth shut about the flat assertions. It's not worth the trouble as I know I'm not changing any minds. But occasionally (especially when hypocrisy is involved) I feel the need to stick up just a little for the many many many (the vast majority IMO) that don't fit the negative mold ascribed to here, even though they will never know I did.
Even though English is my first and only language, I'm not always as articulate ad I'd like to be. I do respect them and their right to congregate and worship, and in my case I'll benefit from them doing so when my tour here is done because my home will have an appeal that other homes don't (walking distance to church). My amusement is that they resemble ants scurrying to the ant hill. If that seems to you to be disrespectful of them then I can't do anything about your perception, it wasn't my intention but seems to be how you took it. I wonder why religious folks feel so compelled to ram their beliefs down everyone's throat and yet are so defensive about an amusing observation? Perhaps that sentiment is what leads to their hypocritical nature. Just because I find something amusing doesn't mean I'm making fun of it, but again I recognize that I'm not always as clear in my written word as I could be. I guess that's why I'm a Scientist and not an English professor.
I appreciate your clarification but I wasn't focused on your “ant like” observation. It was your value judgment that they were “wasting gas, energy and time” in pursuit of their desires that drew my attention.
Likewise, I can’t do anything about your perception that religious people “feel compelled to ram their beliefs down everyone's throat”.
Lastly, I find it amusing that you include me in the group you call religious folks based merely on the fact that I would point out your incongruities and then use that false assumption to assume hypocrisy. Being a scientist and engineer myself I’m sure plays a part in my desire and sometimes passion to help bring clarity to situations such as these.

It's not uncommon for some, especially, small denominational churches, or non-denominational churches to have Sunday school, morning services and evening services. Not everyone goes to all events, however many of them do, particularly the older members. Probably many of the members have known each other, and attended the same services for 30, 40, 50 years. Old habits die hard, and the financial stability of these churches typically rest on the members who own their homes, who are, typically, the middle-aged, and older.
I've heard it mentioned it's not uncommon for some , especially people in sales , or the occasional con man , go to Church for networking .
Now I'm I wondering if the real Bernie Madoff went to Church looking for innocent prey ?
In my opinion , I believe the vast majority of people in Church are kind , well meaning people , but I'm not sure since I'm not there to judge them or there at all .

and talk bad about others, right?
are completely fucked up. They just take advantage of people who are weak and feeble minded looking for a solution to all the problems they created for themselves.
Religion is the cause of all evil in the past, present and probably for long time in to the future.
I have told those knocked on my door that I am an atheist and when they ask “you don’t want to saved” and I answer from what?
Look on their faces is enough for me. I won’t say I respect any religion but I do tolerate them in the name of civility.
