Gratitude, relief over arrests fill community

The Rev. Antonio Jones and the members of his Cristo Vive church were preparing to hold a community prayer vigil this Friday night. They wanted to pray for the criminals terrorizing Gwinnett through a series of home invasions. And also to pray for their capture.
"But now we don't have to do that," Jones said. The news that eight suspects had been apprehended "is even ahead of our prayers. This is such great news. It's so great, I couldn't be happier."
All over Gwinnett County — in churches and groceries, on soccer fields and basketball courts, at suppers and birthday parties — you could almost hear a collective sigh of relief at news of the arrests, announced Friday evening. An alleged traffic offense led police officers to arrest eight Latino males who authorities say are linked to eight of the nine home invasions, which began a little more than two months ago.
Beginning Feb. 25, a gang of Latino males has staged eight home invasions in Gwinnett and one in Barrow county. Armed and masked, the group entered homes, tied up residents, pistol-whipped people, raped and sexually assaulted women and shot one man.
The criminals also stole money, jewelry and vehicles, terrorizing the county's Hispanic residents. As the crime spree continued, the gang seemed to become more violent, some residents observed.
One of those whose home was invaded is Joanna Farez. On March 5, five masked men broke into the Lawrenceville house she shares with her husband, José Gabriel Guzman, and their 2-year-old son. They tied up her husband, pointed a gun at her little boy's head and stole about $300.
News of the arrests had made her calmer, she said Sunday, but some doubts remain. Because the intruders were masked, she didn't see their faces, so she can't identify them through a lineup. She hopes the police have the right men, but thus far can't be positive. Police have said they can link the suspects to the Gwinnett invasions.
Still, doubts aside, Farez thanked God for the arrests and said that having suspects in custody is a relief.
"Thanks to God, thanks to God," Mariela Bernal said when she learned of the arrests. "What relief!" She is a Lawrenceville resident who volunteers with numerous Latino community organizations.
Since March, she said, she hasn't been sleeping well. Every time she heard a car passing by her home at night, she would wake up, wondering whether the criminals were coming to her house.
Bernal said that she will sleep easier now, knowing that the eight suspects, who range in age from 17 to 26, are behind bars. Everybody she knows, she said, was concerned about the invaders, so she couldn't wait to share the good news.
Police released the names and photographs of seven of the suspects Saturday and were still trying to confirm the identity of the eighth. The seven are identified as Gonzalo Ortega, 20, of Norcross; Mario Silverio, 26, of Lilburn; Jaime Carrera Carmago, 18, of Norcross; Cecilio Castro Delacruz, 25, of Lilburn; Paulino Gonzalez-Martinez, 21, of Norcross; Jose Martinez, 18, of Dunwoody; and Gustavo Cisnero, 17, of Norcross.
All the suspects have been charged with armed robbery except for Carmago, who was charged with weapons, drug and traffic offenses.
Ok, somehow I missed something. Maybe I am dyslexic. Anyhow, I totally failed to see the correlation that you made between latino male thugs and unchecked immigration. I read the article that you posted several times and failed to see any evidence of that correlation.
Oh well, maybe I do not assume enough. All I see is that some latino males have been arrested for suspicion of crimes. If proven guilty then they should be punished in accordance with the severity of their crimes. Beyond that, I make no other assumptions.

You make a good point. Every single immigrant group that has set foot in this country post it's freedom from Britain has been reviled by those that were born with citizenship.
You may want to try an butterfly stroke as you swim back across the Rio Grande. just what is it that we are supposed to talk about. You've made your views quite clear. If I'm not mistaken you'de like as many non-whites as possible to leave your country so that it can be 90% white.
I also understand that you don't want any stupid people in your country - I can understand that. However, the resulting 10% of the non-stupid minority populace just might start taking over again - That is, even assuming that the remaining white 90% are also non-stupid (I don't think that is possible though).
So, lets say that after the next round you decide that your country should be 100% white. Well, then you will be quite a small country (being made up of only non-stupid whites) susceptible to skin cancer and invasion.

6 suspects in home invasions are illegal

Six of the eight suspects arrested in connection with a recent spree of home-invasion robberies are illegal immigrants, authorities said.
Police said the eight suspects arrested Friday are part of an organized crew that stormed into at least seven homes in Gwinnett and one in Barrow County. The suspects are scheduled to appear at a Gwinnett pretrial hearing Friday.
But before they could appear in the court, the suspects were visited by an officer from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
"It is my understanding that six of them are in the country without documents proving that they are U.S. citizens," said Sue Brown, spokeswoman for the immigration agency. "One of them is a U.S. citizen, and the other suspect's status is undetermined because he is a juvenile."
If found guilty, the suspects who are not in the country legally will serve their time and be deported, Brown said.
In a string of home invasions, police say, masked, armed bandits battered and shot male victims, sexually assaulted some female victims and pistol-whipped a child. They have stolen money, jewelry and vehicles.
Hispanics were the victims in all but one of the robberies.
The suspects have been identified as Gonzalo Ortega, 20, of Norcross; Mario Silverio, 26, of Lilburn; Jaime Carrera Carmago, 18, of Norcross; Cecilio Castro Delacruz, 25, of Lilburn; Paulino Gonzalez-Martinez, 21, of Norcross; Jose Martinez, 18, of Dunwoody; Gustavo Cisnero, 17, of Norcross; and Hugo Delfino, 16, of Doraville.
Ortega is the only suspect who is a U.S. citizen, Brown said. One of the suspects had been arrested previously in Gwinnett.
Delacruz was arrested once in 2002 and charged with carrying a concealed weapon and impeding the flow of traffic, according to Gwinnett Sheriff's Department reports. He also was arrested twice in 2003 and charged both times with entering an automobile with intent to commit a theft.
"Evidently his immigration status was not determined at that time," Brown said.
Some see this case as an example of why authorities need to crack down on illegal immigration.
"It's a shame that illegal immigrants can cause such a financial burden on the community and, by and large, the government is doing nothing to stem the tide," said Neil Klotzer, a Decatur resident who said he was concerned about the recent home-invasion spree.
Others say the home-invasion spree has raised additional issues.
Bill Roa, a Hispanic advocate of Colombian descent, said the crimes should be a wake-up call for Hispanics who are distrustful of banks and keep large amounts of cash at their homes.
"That practice just invites crime to your doorstep," Roa said. "But this crime had nothing to do with immigration. The vast majority of illegal immigrants come here from desperate situations.
"They just want to work. They are not here to commit crimes."

I knew when I posted the first article that the perps were illegals. I also had the 2nd article ready to go. I am modified so I had to wait for the moderator to post the first article. But, who really cares. Lets get to the meat and potatoes, the content of the articles.
We have millions of people in this country who committed an illegal act just to get here. Then, some, continue to live a life of crime while there here. Others are committed to work hard, make something of themselves while there here. that is a good trait. However, the illlegals who are not committing anymore crimes are still undermining the middle class. depressing wages. This isnt good for the longterm effects of this country. yes some are making a fortune exploiting the cheap labor. Shame on them. The cheap labor, although trying to be good folks, are financially strangling the native people who founded this country.
I could go on and on, but, I want to take small steps so that we can cover each issue individually. Hopefully we can have a serious discussion without insults. Without comments like "get it" that serve no purpose except to attempt to inflame.
