That said, Wanker is totally deluded when he says "a few blacks fought." In fact it was more than 200,000 which is TEN PERCENT of the Union's soldiers. Blacks comprised 16% of the pre-war US population but many of them were still held as slaves in the Southern states and had no opportunity to serve.
Oh, did I mention that Wanker is a troll?

The Civil War was the deadliest war in US history. 620,000 white men gave up their lives so that black people could be free. I’m sure they appreciate that sacrifice. The war was so deadly it cost the US 2% of it’s entire population. Men starving on the battlefield. Limbs getting amputated to treat war wounds. School houses converted to hospitals. Thousands of dead left on the battlefield in unmarked graves. Men who never got to see their families again. It’s so nice that black people appreciate this great sacrifice.  

 
Imagine of half a million Koreans gave up their lives to free Somalians. Or a half a million Italians giving up their lives to free Indonesians. Or a half a million Russians giving up their lives to free the Irish. I don’t think anything like that has ever happened. I’m sure glad blacks appreciate this great sacrifice.  

 
After the Civil War we did in fact create a holiday. It was said all the grieving mothers who had lost their sons in the war should get a holiday. We ended up calling it Mother’s Day. Forgotten is the reason for this, we instead give old women flowers to help them celebrate their own narcissism, forgetting that the holiday is really about the sheer brutality of 620,000 men who died on a battlefield. The humanity of men is always given the least thought, the last consideration, and the last care in the world. But this year, I will remember the sacrifice of some of the greatest Americans who ever lived who gave up their lives to preserve our Union.

1) Memorial Day was originally created to honor Civil War dead. It was later expanded to included the dead of all US wars.
2) Blacks DID fight for their own freedom in the Civil War. More than 200,000 blacks served in the Union Army and Navy and nearly 70,000 died. Wanker might want to watch the movie "Glory" that memorializes one of the most famous regiments, the 54th Massachusetts.
Wanker is a toxic ignoramus.
How many more things has Wanker posted here that are outright WRONG?

Although Jarvis is widely credited as the holiday’s founder, others had floated the idea earlier — with a different agenda in mind, according to National Geographic. The poet and author Julia Ward Howe (pictured here) had aimed to promote a Mothers’ Peace Day decades before. For her and the antiwar activists who agreed with her position — including Jarvis’ own mother — the idea of Mother’s Day should spread unity across the globe in the wake of so much trauma following the Civil War in America and Franco-Prussian War in Europe.

Mother’s Day was initially launched by antiwar activists in 1872. Julia Ward Howe, better remembered for writing "The Battle Hymn of the Republic," advocated a Mothers’ Peace Day on which pacifist women would gather in churches, social halls, and homes to listen to sermons or essays, sing, and pray for peace
As far as Black participation in the Civil War goes, I think you either missed Willy’s point or got it and deflected.

Show the class where Wanker mentioned (or even just implied) that Blacks served in the Civil War. He did neither. His clear implication was that Blacks benefited from the War and simply stood by waiting to be emancipated. By supporting him YOU are the one deflecting. Which makes you almost as big a racist as Wanker.
Interesting info about Howe though quite tangential, though it did give you an opportunity to deflect my main point which was about Black service in the Civil War.

16% of the prewar population and 99% of which lived in the south. Blacks would by and large be non-existent in the north until the mid 20th century.

Fine, I propose we change the name of the holiday to White Males Saved America Day Plus An Insignificant Number Of Blacks. Just doesn't have the same ring as the previous title, but oh well.

Anyway

With out the abolition movement and Abraham Lincoln’s stead fast resolve to reunite and maintain the union. Human history would be very different.  

PS I’m all about reparations for slavery. Show me a slave from the confederate states of America and I say set em up for life!!!

It must make him feel so stupid.
As for reparations, I used to feel the same way. Then I learned that Blacks have suffered for years since emancipation from discrimination that has caused endemic losses like lower wages, red-lining and outright confiscation. So in my mind the problem is not whether reparations are called for. It's how to do it in a way that's fair to everyone.
