Some of you might remember that as a conciliation insurance I put $1000 on our upcoming Il Duce, Donald Trump right after Brexit when it was 1:4.2.
I just placed another $1000 with bet365 on Marine Le Pen to win in France. The odds were 1:3.4. Any of you have an opinion on that? So what would be next, Germany? I'm almost ready to bet now that after letting so many immigrants from Syria into the country, Angela will lose her reelection to some neo-Nazi who even during campaign would not be afraid to hint at the reemergence of Aryan race and would have whacked up crowds randomly throwing up Nazi salutes. If Le Pen indeed wins (as I think she will) the writing would be on the wall for ultra-nationalist regimes to spring up all over the world. Whether those nationalists would also cross into outright fascism is anybody's guess.1. How was the outcome of the Brexit vote, and indicator to the outcome of the U.S. national election?
I still don't see the connection. Explain.
2. When Trump, squashed his birther rhetoric, I said does this mean what I think it means? It sure did.
So... what is your definition of Fascism?
Mine is ... nation with a dictator, i.e not elected or election is phony ( 1 person on the ballot)
dictator makes all decisions i.e. doesn't need a legislature, rules by fiat
citizens not allowed to dissent
government controls the economy i.e. decides what is produced
government controls all information in and out and within the nation
government sees citizens as servants of the nation
if the USA was a Fascist nation, then wouldn't Barack Obama have declared himself President For Life ?
Dictatorship and fascism are two different things. Hitler was elected by a purely democratic nation in a purely democratic fashion. Hitler was a fascist.
In my opinion fascism is an ultra-nationalism, believe that your nation or ethnic group are above everybody else. Remember Hitler's Aryans were above the rest? That's fascism. For example, the whole concept of "American exceptionalism" to me sounds like a purely fascistic notion.
Nationalists are usually patriots. Fascists, in addition to being patriots, are also "superiorists", i.e. we're better then everybody else and as such we deserve to be treated better then everybody else.
Is America a fascist nation? We'll see. Nationalism does not necessarily mean fascism. Russia was ultra-nationalist in the 90s but I'd never call it fascist. I mean there are and always have been fascists there, like anywhere else but as long as they constitute the fringe it doesn't make a nation fascist.
Despite of me customarily referring to Trump as Il Duce (talks the talk and looks it a bit too, doesn't he?), I don't consider Trump fascist. At least not yet. His motto: "America first!" is nationalistic but it doesn't point to him thinking of Americans as superior. Moreover, I know that I heard and read numerously that Trump doesn't like and doesn't agree with the notion of American exceptionalism, which is something which makes me hopeful in regards to the world's peace under Trump/Putin administrations. On the other hand of course, Trump's propensity to "chase shinny objects" moderates that hope significantly.
So in short:
Nationalism - I love my country, I love my people. You fuck with us, we'll unload on you more then you can handle.
Fascism - my country is better then any other country, my people are better (as in superior) then everybody else and as such we should be treated differently then everybody else, and everybody else should pay homage and maybe be even ready to serve us (like Hitler's Aryans and Mussolini's Romans). Fascism can also be outwardly aggressive or not.
In short, fascism is a nationalism that emphasizes national superiority above everything else. I think I got it right..
It wasn't the only indicator but it pointed to the general global trend towards nationalism and looking inwards rather then outward, as well as to mistrust of everything "establishment". Remember one of the main if not the main reasons for Brexit was immigration, which is staple issue for Trump. Also economic nationalism, also "Britain first!". The commonalities are just too obvious to ignore.
Unlike most however, I lost almost all doubts that Trump would win not after FBI reports and Wikileaks leaks but after people of Columbia voted down peace agreement of their decade long war with FARC negotiated by the Columbian government (if you read the details it may remind you a bit of our agreement with Iran).
Whether Trump will be non-interventionist or not, whether he'd build the wall and get rid of TCP or not, everything is so interconnected now that whatever is happening in one place inevitably affects the other. It's beyond his abilities to change that.
The fascinating part of it all is that Russia was going through similar experiences in the 90s, early 2000s and now is much more outward then inward oriented then before but that's the whole different topic.
Obviously what I read and heard (including here) about Hillary Clinton already had me leaning in that direction. Trump's history with proving all the "experts" wrong too.
And I think I'm not even half-way through yet.
Breitbart..
but my bookie was taking action on the election, much to his chagrin as he lost 6 digits on the outcome as most of his action was on Trump at very similar odds to what the OP stated he received.
I wanted to bet Trump at 100-1 back about a year ago, but the only books taking that action were in London and I didn't want to start opening international gambling accounts again. It's simply too difficult getting paid with all the AML issues of today.
At the link below. I used bet365 just like with Trump.
The establishment favorites are still Sarkozy and Fillon, but just like with Trump, I figured I roll the dice with Le Pen. It's like playing stock market: your ability to separate your wishful thinking and secret desires from the reality will decide whether you're successful or not
