I did not know the earthquake fault was named Obama.

Didn't get laid? Lost some of your retirement money in the stock market? Maybe your alma mater wasn't selected for the NCAA Tournament. Just relax.

Even though he believes himself to be omnipotent and an instrument of Allah, this illegal Kenyan alien permitted the earthquake to happen on his watch.  Not only that, he allowed the subsequent tsunami and, for good measure, multiple nuclear melt-downs.  It's Obama's Tri-fecta.  I say impeach him now before he strikes again, closer to home!  Help save America by electing a Palin/Bachmann ticket immediately afterwards.  Then repeal all  Constitutional amendments we don't believe the Framers wouild like (find out with a Ouija board) and annul Darwinian evolution.  Next,  invade Libya.  But, hell, why stop there?  March right on into Saudi Arabia, take all their oil and give every red-blooded (meaning Red State) voter an 8-liter pickup truck.  Require all drivers to do a burn-out when traffic lights turn green.  Turn Iran into a glass parking lot.  Oh, yeah!  Free six packs with every fill-up. Hmmm, what's left?  Force everyone but Americans to have abortions while requiring all  American women to have five kids.  Now  we've got 'em right where we want 'em!  And it all stops with getting rid of that socialist scumbag Obama...or was it Osama?  Hmmm...sounds like fun!

Unlike Hurricanes, we should only name our earthquake faults by ineffectual politicians. Gives their legacy impact.

Beck says God did it. And there's a message in there somewhere about why he did, but you have to figure it out.

And what did God learn? He learned that the Japanese handle disasters a helluva lot better than New Orleans. I'm not talking about the government. I'm talking about the citizens. And to think one group was given up to 7 days notice, and the folks of Sendai got a whopping 45 minute warning.

The Japanese have regular tsunami and earthquake drills, and by government regulation their buildings are designed to withstand earthquakes that would level any American city.

Still comparing the two disasters is pretty ridiculous. The total death toll from Katrina was 1836, and according to Japanese police, the death toll could be as high as 10,000. A third of the nation's electricity output is down, and they're in the middle of partial nuclear melt down that could turn into a full blown melt down.

Of course, the GOP solution is to cut funding for disaster preparedness including tsunami early warning systems.

This disaster had 45 minutes, which is all you get for a Tsunami when the distance is a few hundred miles. New Orleans had plenty of time to prepare, and I'm talking about local and state government, not FEMA, not the Feds.

I'm actually not discussing 1800 dead vs 10,000. I'm not even talking about preparation. I'm talking about how the Japanese handle disasters vs those in the U.S, specifically New Orleans. Have you heard of any looting, any crime, finger pointing, complaining about the government and where the hell are they? You have to admit, they handle disasters better than we, irrespective of the role of government.

Now listen to me carefully regarding earthquakes. I have lived in Southern California my entire life. You haven't. I have experienced earthquakes. I've seen what has happened, especially the last one in 1994 at 6.5. You live on the East Coast, which means you have no clue. All of the newer buildings, i.e. built in the last 30 years are up to code. California actually works closely with the Japanese.

We actually have a tsunami warning system. I can't compare it to Japan's, but all residents of coastal California were clearly notified of the tsunami potential following the Sendai earthquake.

As usual, you need to do a little bit of homework.

You are "supposed" to be one of the saner posters here. This is more like the kind of drivel I would expect from WW or one of the other more deranged posters here.

I'm with StCroix, I think you need to get laid.

PS: My portfolio's doing fine, and I hate basketball.  The getting laid part I'm working on.  As long as my portfolio is fine I remain hopeful.

A lot of negative news, which makes this a good time to buy. You're right, there will be a construction boom in Japan. You can look at U.S. companies benefiting from this boom, i.e. Caterpillar, Freeport-McMoran, Cummins, etc. Japan stocks might warrant a look, which would be a first in about 20 years.

Geopolitical events, natural disasters, it's always something. Just have to watch and learn how to profit from it.

Now back to some serious business - finalize my March Madness picks.

(no pun intended) there will be a construction boom in Japan. Never thought of investing in Japanese construction firms and suppliers i.e. concrete etc. It's time to do some research, could be some good buys on Nikkei (or whatever they call the Japanese stock market).

I do agree with part of Incky's rant, Obama has blown it in Iran, and Libya. Oh well, watch the price of oil go up and unemployment rate. Can you say Stagflation, yep it's 1970's redux,

1. Democratic President
2. Trouble in Iran,
3. Nuclear meldown, remember three-mile island,
4. Inflation brought on by high oil prices and other commodities.
5. High unemployment.

What goes around, comes around.
