The MSM was against him. The Dems were against him. The GOP was against him, the entire power elite of DC were against him. Supposedly "all" Hispanics, Blacks, Asians, Union members, Women et al et al et al were all against him, but here we are POTUS elect Trump. America, you've got to love it.
I will agree he is hugely flawed, but I also give credit where credit is due. and I am still waiting for all the apologies I am due from all the people who said I was nuts when I was the first person here to give him a snowballs chance in hell of winning.

I said it from the beginning, Trump (with all his flaws) was the ONLY Republican with a chance of winning. The others might not have been as controversial and would have lost "respectfully", but they would have lost none the less.
Some would have destroyed her. I think Trump kept it closer than it would have been.
To answer your question, Kasich would have been perfectly situated to win the rust belt as he has a 70% approval in a neighboring, rust belt state. He is well known/liked in western PA and the other states you mention.
You seem to be forgetting she is such a terrible candidate and had a 60% disapproval rating.
Kasich and Rubio polled extremely well against her (up 5-6 points nationally) BEFORE all her server/email/wiikileaks scandals were revealed.
