I question whether a democracy is really possible in Iraq. Think President Bush is being way too over optimistic in the capacity of this nation and its people to be successful in this regard. What do others think?

That whole mid-East is just a clusterfuck of evolutionary and developmentally challenged thieves, con-men and homicidal camel jockies. The only way to get any stability from that part of the world is to effect genocide and re-populate with those of western culture and values.
Now before Viking Captain or any other bleeding heart liberal gets all in a snit and starts calling me names lets remember what area of the world has been waring against everyone as well as each other for the last 2000 years.
Today yet another American civilian was beheaded by these sub-human primate motherfuckers. Be you Republican or Democrat; Christian or Jew. To think these pre-neolithic leftovers will ever civilize or stabilize is wishful and dangerous thinking.

It's time to combat test the nutron bomb.

You just shouldn't count on the "lucky shot."  Nevertheless, it looks like we have to.

Depends on the Iraqis, and the countries surrounding them.

The Iraqi interim Health Minister was attacked this morning but escaped.  The optimistic thing is that Iraqi policemen that responded to the attack actually engaged the insurgent gunmen in a gun battle, that from reports, appeared to have been intense.  If people like the Iraqi policemen continue to consistently stand up to the insurgents, then there is a better than "lucky shot" chance that Iraq can become a functioning society, without the need for countries like the US and Great Britain doing the heavy work for them.

... it will take a while, but no government (in the long run) has any other option than majority rule while protecting minority rights.   Harry

Harry, I am so proud of you son ... what a pleasure to read something so profound, simple, and sensible.

I just hope people like you start running for office.  And when you do, I will be even more proud of you.

I would also love to see the day when men of honor lead Countries.  Sadly, I'm quite sure it will not be in our lifetimes though (Man is too selfish).

A good start (IMHO) is to stop placing Presidents on pedastals and start holding them accountable.  Today, only the opposing side seeks accountability (when it suits them).  It would be a much better world (IMHO) if THE PEOPLE demand some semblance of honor from these Politicians regardless of their affiliation.

It's sad to respect a President JUST because they are President (this is what they count on to pull all the shit they do).

BTW, Harry you have my vote !!!!

June 30th the power along with Saddam will be handed over to the Iraq Government. In which case they will blow it and Saddam will escape, only to return to power. Then my President George W Bush will send in the Nukes and we will be rid of them.
