From what I can tell, Anton LaVey's Satanic Church's ethos is basically, "do what thou wilt". That's not much different than the Libertarian Party wanting "complete liberty from government tyranny". Hell, both groups even talk about the nobility of greed.

The 5 pointed star is a powerful symbol. An upside down star has long been the symbol of the Church of Satan, as a representation of the Goat's Head.
