He is trying his best to integrate a divided country! Way go go.
Maybe that's what you mean by Way go go.
Yet another piece of stupidity on the part of Huffpo. How shocking. Christians refer to one anohther as their brothers and sisters in Christ all the time. Big fat hairy deal. So the guy is a Christian. So he made the same altar call that deacons make every Sunday in every Baptist all around the land. "If you aren't saved you aren't my brother or sister in Christ, so come on down". So what? That's what Christians do. That's what it means to be a proseltyzing religion. Who gives a fat rat's ass what his beliefs are? He was just sworn in as Govenor. As long as he fulfills job duties, thta is the only thing anyone need concern themselves with.
said the same thing! But, then you may not even believe he is one, though he claims he is.
I have a long history on this board of antipathy bordering on hostility toward nearly all reglions, particularly Christianity, which I abhor nearly as much as Islam. I am far from an apologist for the religious right. The fact that more often than not I vote for the same candidates as those on the religious right does not mean that I agree with them, or tolerate their narrow minded religious bigotry. It just means we have more political views in common than those we do not agree on.
I'll be the first one to condemn religious speech that is spoken in the wrong place at the wrong time, or speech that is genuinely intolerant or divisive. Had the Govenor said what he said from his office, that would be a problem. But he didn't, he said it in a church, where it is appropriate, and what he said was in no way objectionable. He didn't just say "you aren't my brothers or sisters", he said that those who are saved are his brothers and sisters, and those who aren't saved are not, but he'd like them to be. That is the essence of the message of most Christians. This "story" is not a story at all, but merely the left's attempt at creating something out of nothing, and is so very typical of them.
I get sick to death of those on the right who insist we all have to believe what they believe, and live by waht they believe in regardless of whether we share those beliefs of not. But I am equally nauseated by those on the left who arrogantly look down on anyone of faith and deem them ignorant, backwards, or gullible simply because the person has faith that they themselves do not have. Both points of view are repugnant to me, and the constant fight between the two sides is nothing more than a distraction that keeps us focused on the minutae and shuts down real discourse on issues that matter. We have real problems in this country, real issues that need to be addressed. This religious BS is just a waste of time.
PS. Regarding Obama's faith - frankly, I don't give a rat's ass one way or another.
"I don't know that atheists should be considered as citizens, nor should they be considered patriots."
So much for a ban on religious tests. No, I'm not back.

Okay. Keeping it simple so as not to get distracted:
Give the cite where he said that. A reliable one. Not like Daily Koz, but something even half decent, like N.Y. Times.
Surely if the president of the United States said something like that, it would be reported.
In fact, I will accpet Daily Koz as long as they have a link.
Liar, liar, liar. Welcome back.
So much for a ban on religious tests. No, I'm not back.

...here's another link.
I'll expect your apology for your "You Lie!" comment shortly. Don't worry, I won't hold my breath.
Without Gods word in his heart, man can not see his evil, or recognize truth from lie.
Its not that atheists are constantly making up lies, its their inability to recognize, when other atheists are lying to them.
Willy, You lie and don't realize .
You claim you are not back, yet have never left.
Without God in your heart, you are lost.
Your own link with no proof, mentions "alleged" comment by Bush and "The accuracy of the quote has been questioned, however, as Sherman did not tape the exchange and no other journalist reported on it"

Being an atheist, I have no faith that god exists so I require proof that god exists. It is impossible for anyone to lie about anything related to the subject of god because there is no way to prove that their lies are lies.
That is the dumbest source I ever saw.
Even that source has "Bush allegedly said......" It was reported by an atheistic journalist, who obviously had a point he was trying to make, the accuracy has been questioned, and no one else heard it.
The more you look, the sillier it becomes. It is said to have occured "during a public press conference." All of those things are recorded. Press conferences have a dozen camera and 20 tape recorders. And no one else heard it. And no one can find a tape.
I know people have this insane hatred, but can't you even look at how unlikely it is that a comment at a press conference would go unrecorded?
Like I said, "One good source." Welcome back.
I'll expect your apology for your "You Lie!" comment shortly. Don't worry, I won't hold my breath.
...none of which were from the Daily Kos, and you change the goalpost. Sounds like the same old Phil.
So basically you're calling Robert Sherman a liar. Fine, but what evidence do you have that he is one? Why has George HW Bush never denied saying this?
First, you gave multiple links, but all one source. They all tracked it back to the same person. Saying something six times doesn't make it more reliable. Likewise, if ten people say "Jim told me X." it boils down to one source - Jim - with ten people reporting it.
The links you gave all traced it back to one source. No one else heard it.
As to that source, I clearly was asking for a source that was semi-neutral. I did not specifically say "the Daily Kos." I used the word "LIKE"
I was using that as an example, not limiting the request. That is what like means. Likewise, the example of the N.Y Times was intended to be an example of a fairly neutral and respected source. Had it been AP, or the L.A. Times, that would have been good.
I didn't change the goal posts. I asked for something reliable. Instead, you have one person with an obvious bone to pick hearing something at a press conference that no one else heard and was not recorded or filmed.
And you don't think it is amazing that no one else at the pres conference heard it.
-- Modified on 1/19/2011 10:12:52 AM
...you'd see that it was reported in Free Inquiry Magazine. As I understand it, it was an interview, not a press conference. If you think Free Inquiry has a bone to pick, then how's the George HW Bush Presidential Library? Do I have permission to list that as a reliable source?
Can i say welcome back yet.
To the merits: They all go back to the same person. It is one person saying it in several forums, with other people quoting him.
It all boils down to one person at a press conference heard something else that no one else heard and that the mikes never picked up.
Don't hold your breath until you have something independent.
Then the silly thing about the Bush library. It depends what you quote from there. If you link to video tape and audio, yeah, you can quote from there. There are a million documents that will be there and many will be very reliable.
The reliability comes not from where it is, or who said it, but whether it can be corroborated.
Again, it was a press conference. If only one person heard it and no one recorded it, I think it is a lie.
as a source. Jesus H. Christ, you gotta be out of your mind. She continually warped any statement to suit her agenda. Not reliable at all.
There's an old Texas saying..."Some people just need killin". Guess someone took that to heart, before her parched bones were found out in the west Texas sage brush.
I have no problem with atheists, as long as they leave me alone, I'll do the same. But when they start trying to shove their beliefs down my throat, I get angry.
I don't care whether they believe in a God or Goddess, or don't believe in anything but science. Just don't continually try to push your belief or non-belief at me.

TING.
Don't worry. After a thousand posts we know what you mean. Just tryin to save bandwidth
Charlie, it occurred to me last night that there has to be a God. If there isn't, then who the hell am I supposed to notify of my arrival?
(you might have to think about that one for a while before it clicks) :P
