Will Trump ever do his homework BEFORE he

opens his mouth?  Maybe the better question is; will his supporters actually know the difference?

1)  Take the oil from Iraq, "to the victor go the spoils."  Doesn't he realize after deposing Saddam Hussein (although history shows what a monumental achievement this would have been), that a normalization of Iraqi sovereignty and filling the power vacuum with democracy, would have been the only way to move towards stabilizing that region?  (Which would be in direct support of our national vital interests.)  Taking a major source of their wealth would only lead to even more destabilization, not to mention it is against the Geneva Convention.

2)  Our "generals have been reduced to rubble."  Doesn't Trump realize that ALL the military tactical/strategic advice being implemented today comes from these senior military leaders.  Obama would not change the oil in his own car, nor go in the kitchen and cook for the entire White House staff.  One would be either a liar or quite naïve to think Obama does more than pick from "menu A" or "menu B" as offered by OUR experts in their field.  You can be sure they provide alternatives that are not only aimed at supporting our national interests, but at the most minimal threat possible to the lives and safety of our military heroes.

3)  Maybe by now, after all the blow back, Trump will realize the true content of intelligence briefings.  They are a collection of facts, raw data, assessments of situations in hotspots around the world.  No policy, no recommendations, just fact.  What he would also know if he actually served in any position of responsibility (or just read a newspaper once in a while), is that quite often intelligence is not crystal clear, nor 100% accurate.  Look at the decision George Bush made to invade Iraq.  Based entirely on intelligence, somewhat faulty intelligence.

By now, it is quite obvious how exhausted Trump's supporters must be.  He has saturated them with so many lies, misstatements of fact, and illogical conclusions, that they can not tell reality from fiction.  If Trump's core supporters had even one rational brain cell left, it would be so overloaded with excrement, at this point, they would believe almost anything.  And it seems as if they DO!

Just joking, however, your analysis regarding the weaknesses of Trump's approach to foreign policy, and Iraq in particular, is spot on

become our president he would get a quick education.  Our military leaders never look at one event in isolation.  Kind of like a chess game, they must be prepared to explain what they think the next step would be in response to our action, as well as countless subsequent steps.  You are waaaaaaaaay ahead of Trump.

Our military leaders would also make it clear what we could reasonably deal with based upon our force structure.  While our warfighters are the worlds best and we are the best equipped, we must make sure we have the numbers to respond to such a threat and still maintain the defensive military posture necessary to satisfy our committments in other geographical regions.  We already have our hands full with Afghanistan/Syria/Iraq.
