ABC is so afraid of Trump they caved in remarkably quickly. Kimmel's remarks were indeed inflammatory. But ABC's cowardly decision must be evaluated in the context of comments by Trump, Bondi and Vance about going after "hate speech" which even Kirk said was protected by the First Amendment.
This is not a good day for free speech. Remember when the ACLU supported the Nazi's right to march in Skokie? Those days seem to be gone.

...was to offer his and his wife's condolences to Kirk's family.

On Monday the 15th Kimmel said:
"We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and do everything they can to score political points from it."

Kimmel was wrong but I don't think everything was known about the shooter as of the 15th.  FCC chairman Brendan Carr (and Trump puppet) went on Benny Johnson's podcast and basically threatened to revoke ABC's broadcasting license.

Nexstar Media, which owns 23 ABC affiliates, pulled Kimmel's show from their ABC stations so in turn ABC "pre-empted indefinitely" Kimmel's show.

CNN's media reporter Brian Stelter  asked Brendan Carr if he had any comment on ABC pulling Kimmel's show.  Carr sent Stelter a GIF of two characters from The Office celebrating.  IOW, the political prick was happy Kimmel's show got pulled.

Reporter: "My condolences on the loss of your friend Charlie Kirk.  May I ask sir, personally, how are you holding up over the last day and a half, sir?
Trump: "I think very good, and by the way, right there you see all the trucks.  They've just started construction for the new ballroom of the White House, which is something they've been trying to get, as you know, for about a hundred and fifty years and it's gonna be a beauty."
Kimmel: "Yes, he's at the fourth stage of grief - construction."

but let’s take a look at what was public knowledge when Kimmel made his vile remarks about Trump supporters killing Charlie Kirk.
Megyn Kelly gives us a thorough breakdown of:

This was *after* we knew from the UT gov that the killer had been indoctrinated into LEFT-wing ideology, *after* we’d seen the shooter’s bullet casings reflecting furry/trans memes, calling Charlie a fascist and w/anti-fascist lyrics. It was *after* we had learned the shooter was living with his trans-furry boyfriend and believed Charlie Kirk was “full of hate.” *After* we learned that the shooter was not registered GOP, but “unaffiliated.” *After* we saw him pull the trigger just as Charlie discussed trans killers. There was zero - ZERO - evidence the shooter was MAGA, had ever been MAGA, or was influenced by MAGA in any way.
This was an intentional lie to GIN UP HATRED toward the very group of ppl most suffering in the wake of our devastating loss of Charlie and Kimmel did it willfully and even gleefully to a cheering complicit audience.

ANY EMPLOYER IN MEDIA WOULD SEE HOW DEPRAVED AND SICK THIS WAS. (In 2021 ABC fired Chris Harrison for saying maybe we should judge a Bachelorette contestant’s attendance (years earlier) at an antebellum party by what was considered offensive at the time. FIRED! His career never recovered!)

There’s more to her statement, but the TLDR version is that Kimmel is a piece of shit and ABC isn’t much better.

Far from being "in the toilet" Kimmel's show last quarter ranked second in late night.
"Average Viewers:
In the second quarter of 2025, the show averaged 1.772 million viewers.
Ranking:
This placed Jimmy Kimmel Live! in second place for late-night shows during that period, per TV Insider.
Demo Advantage: Kimmel also held an advantage in the 18-49 demo, beating Colbert with 220,000 viewers, according to TV Insider."
Just another example of why no one here should believe certain posters.

So everyone wants to blame.... TRUMP and FCC....   WRONG.

1.  It was the Companies own decision... Period.

2.  Why didn't the left complain when Rosanne got fired for things she said?  Seriously....same exact situation....SAME NETWORK.

Facts that can't be disputed.

1A rights dont save you from the employer firing you.  Saves you from government arresting you.

Now the issue will be in Jimmy's contract if there is legal consequences that ABC could face.   I highly doubt it since they didn't with Rosanne.  BUT Jimmy technically isn't "fired" as of yet.  Kimmel said things "On Air".....so was it "scripted", apart of the show, etc.  Which could give him contractual obligations or legal room to sue ABC.  This one could get interesting.

As nakedly partisan and an ignorer of facts.
Kimmel was suspended AFTER the Trump-appointed head of the FCC publicly threatened the management of his parent company. Mr. Carr said the F.C.C. was going to need to look into “remedies,’’ pointedly saying that the “licensed broadcasters” who carry ABC’s programming needed to push back against the parent network.
This was followed by announcements by a major station group with ABC affiliates, Nexstar, that it would independently pre-empt Mr. Kimmel’s show.  As it happens, Nexstar is pursuing a station merger that will require F.C.C. approval.
And yet, to you none of this matters.

inicky46 61 Reviews 28 reads

From The NY Times:
"President Trump told reporters he believed the F.C.C. should revoke the broadcast licenses of networks who have late night show hosts who speak overly negatively about him.

“I have read someplace that the networks were 97% against me again, 97% negative, and yet I won and easily,” Trump said abroad Air Force One. “I would think maybe their license should be taken away. It will be up to Brendan Carr,” the chairman of the F.C.C., Trump added.

Trump added that he believed there needed to be a conservative late night TV show host, calling the networks “an arm of the Democrat party.”

“Look, that’s something that should be talked about for licensing, too,” he said. “When you have a network and you have evening shows, and all they do is hit Trump. That’s all they do. If you go back, I guess they haven’t had a conservative on in years.”

This is incredibly stupid because broadcast networks don't operate under licenses. Their broadcast affiliates, which are mostly privately owned, do.
Not to mention that, in what definition of our democracy should it be impermissible to criticize the President?
But he's not an authoritarian.
Are you righties fine with that? I bet you are.

So now you are actually speculating what is happening?

You do know that would be HIGHLY illegal if the FCC didn't push through the sale/merger because of something like this or that was the basis for the reason.   Which would lose in court battles.

Where was the outrage when Rosanne got fired?   YES FIRED.   Kimmel isn't fired.

Now this is bullshit.   This is wrong.... dont agree with him about this at all.

Do I think that the late night shows all lean left.   YEP.    Do i think they should go back towards center.... YEP.

I remember when shows made fun of EVERYONE..... comedy was comedy.  Doesn't matter political affiliation.  If you fucked up they made fun of you.   If your in the spot light.... they made fun of you.   It was even across the board and nobody got butt hurt.    Lets get back to that.

Hell Trump used to poke fun at himself and went along with it.

I just read they pulled a re-run of an earlier episode featuring a likeness of Kirk, so maybe their balls aren't that big. According to this article, Kirk's executive producer wants the episode to run.

I was thinking the same thing.    They also didn't air the new episode that was supposed to be aired last night.

Now I am wondering if they "pulled" the episode out of respect right away thing.    They have pulled episodes in the past.   They have stopped showing certain episodes where they made fun of Issac Hayes character and Scientology.  The one where he was "brainwashed".   Hayes walked off set right before this episode I am thinking of and what not.  Not sure if it was a legal issue.

Hopefully they will keep airing it.   But I honestly think they did it out of respect right away.   But we will see.

Liberals here and across the country have been whining and clutching their pearls about Trump and the FCC censoring Kimmel, but we already know that was a market driven decision by ABC and a conglomerate of local stations that carry ABC programming.

But there’s more, this whole kerfuffle was avoidable.  All Kimmel had to do was apologize, but the belligerent asshole refused.  He gave ABC no choice but to suspend him.
Late night host Jimmy Kimmel said he was unwilling to apologize for his remarks that blamed MAGA supporters for killing conservative activist Charlie Kirk — and said he was going to double down on attacking President Trump’s backers before he was yanked from the air, according to new reports.

Oh the irony:

“I appeared on Jimmy Kimmel twice,” says @SeanSpicer. “The ratings were huge. Everybody loved it.” But when Sean was interested in returning to promote his new book, he got the cold shoulder. Jimmy’s producer, Sean says, told him that, “‘We got so much blowback having you on …. We cannot be funny with you. We can’t humanize Trump people.’” Says Sean, “It’s just ironic that a group of people that were so against platforming anybody associated with Donald Trump is now complaining” about being de-platformed.
