Obama is losing ground because charm can only take you so far and his "change" policies consist of boilerplate Pre-Clinton, Pre-DLC Democrat strategy. He apparently is planning to become much more edgier and aggressive in this campaign. The "lipstick on a pig" comment has already caused waves.
Will there be anything left for him to offer if he becomes an angry partisan? What exactly is he without his charm? McCain won't take the bait. He has always carried himself with a statesman's dignity. Palin will go negative but she'll do it with a wink & a smile and her voters will eat it up.
A couple of weeks ago I was 80% convinced Obama would win this. It is looking more & more like this may be McCain's to lose.
McCain's strategists are trying to bait Obama into appearing as the dangerous angry black man to scare off the undecided white women. It might work if he's not careful. IMHO he made a big mistake to asking the crowd he was speaking to, in referring to McCain and Palin, "Do they think your stupid?" To one hearing that, it can be heard as a question, and at the same time felt like a gut punch, and delivered not by McCain but Obama, thus erasing the question from the audience's mind, but feeling like he just called them stupid.
Today, Obama and McCain had a sitdown discussion and answer session at Columbia. Pat said that he thought Obama beat McCain. I thought McCain was outstanding as well. However, counting Obama out at this point is rather short sighted.
Does that means it's not true. You can bet a lot of money on the fact that the Republican operatives, like Rove, are hoping more people like you believe it's not. And, I have not ruled out Obama. The question was regarding if his approach could backfire. By the way, while having breakfast at my favorite spot, I heard an older white woman, who seemed to be for Obama, state the same view you have objected to. You confuse how things should be with how they truly are. Don't confuse who is playing the race card here.

Deal with Foreign policy (the gaffe on splitting Iraq into 3 was a very dumb misstatement) Be specific when talking of "change" - heck, Katrina "changed" the lives of millions.... gotta be good change.... Believe what he says,- there at the beginning, I believed him, but as he went on, and started waffling... well? there ya go.... Provide what he believes are the most important challanges to his admin - and what he will do to address them...
Obama was EXTREMELY specific about what he would do. BTW, I've seen much discussion here about sticking to convictions. I think that's absurd. I'd much rather someone who can admit to being wrong than one who believes he has to hold fast to every wrong thought and defend it with verve (e.g., George Jr.).
