People are falling all over themselves to praise John McCain and POTUS Trump is taking flak for not joining them.  

 
Question one, what do you REALLY expect Trump to say about McCain after McCain's last words were basically a  "Fuck You" to Trump?

 
Question two, What do you think McCain would be saying about Trump if it were Trump who had died in office first?

Trump is a coward, liar and scumbag.

I was not crazy about McCain, but he was a war hero and had some class.
It's no comparison between  John McCain and the Russian puppet.

Doesn't matter.  When someone passes away, what you really thought about that person is irrelevant, particularly if you are a politician.  It might all be bullshit, but you sort of have to say good things about that person.  

All the praise being leveled on John McCain, or at least the vast majority of it is complete and utter bullshit, and is not being given because people genuinely respected and/or admired John McCain. Half of it's because of him being a "Never Trumper" and I will concede that the other half is for the reason you offer, that you "sort of have to say good things about that person" if you are a politician.  

 
 I see no-one cared to answer either one of my actual questions, especially the one about what John McCain would likely have had to say about Trump if he were the one still standing after Trump was gone.  

 
BTW Trump did take the "high road" he stayed away from the funeral proceedings as "asked/demanded" by McCain himself and he hasn't made any negative or snarky remarks about John McCain since his passing. What more do you really expect from Trump given the circumstances?

America has a place for people from all walks of life.

Doesn't matter how you lived your life, it only matters what we(the survivors) say about you once you're dead.

Example, the story of Jesus.

I think McCain would have done what Bush, Obama, and every other leader did and does. Massage the situation. "We had our differences but ..." and then you pick an issue and spin it in the most praiseworthy way.

It would NOT be the time for McCain (nor any other leader with a shred of common sense, decency and verbal skills and a knowledge of the deceased's career) to rub and tug at the decedent and express their most negative opinions or conduct themselves with disrespect towards the recently departed. ("... building a 2000 mile long wall is a ridiculous idea." "... Kim Jong Un played that idiot like a cheap piano." "... he is lying before us today in a beautiful casket draped with the American flag that he so cherished. I would have expected his pissed off Mafia pals to have given him a cement coffin.")

What I expected Trump to say is pretty much what his initial response was:  a generic "sympathy card" to the family, and a flag flown at half-staff for a very short time.  (Later, after being lambasted by his staff and probably Ivanka also, he caved in and did a little more, but not much more.)

That's all a person like Trump who lacks grace and empathy could do. He's simply not capable of saying kind words about the passing of someone who devoted nearly his entire adult life in service to his country, suffering great pain for several years in that service, when he has big disagreements with that person.  It's not something Trump can relate to.  He can't look past his own ego.

Trump saying a few kind words about McCain would be like a guy who was beaten in two different bloody elections asking the victors to give eulogies at his funeral.  When do we ever see something like THAT happen?  😏

I can't find the official "last words" from McCain to Trump, but I think this must mean the clear message that McCain sent several times that he wanted Trump to stay away from the funeral and ceremonies.

McCain could have not mentioned Trump at all and just issued a clear request that only adults were to be allowed at the funeral. He wouldn't want unruly children to be kicking over the chairs or pissing on the flowers or otherwise upsetting mourners and those paying their respects with their childish bad behavior.

As it happens, Trump performed as expected, as a petulant, insecure little child.  His condolences addressed the family only and did not mention McCain or his service to country at all. At first he rejected issuing any formal statement; then he rejected the advice of Kelly and Huckabee Sanders to give some praise to McCain in a statement. Trump ordered the US flag to be flown at full staff before his advisors, the public, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and the American Legion called on Trump to fly the flag at half staff for McCain. (See the statement and proclamation cited above.)

I EXPECTED Trump to do the sorts of things that he did do. I had zero expectation that Trump would willingly show any honor or respect for McCain or that he would refrain from showing his contempt and disrespect.

1) I didn't expect Trump to do anymore than he did, since he had no compassion for a man dying of cancer or regret to retract his disgraceful words of a captured POW war hero.  Trump is clearly a sociopath, and sociopaths feel no remorse or empathy.

2) I believe if Trump had died first, John McCain would have probably said something on Trumps strong points like being a great businessman and promoter; but very naive on foreign policy and how our government works.  John McCain would have never dehumanized him, because McCain would be representing himself on a higher standard of decency.
