Former White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre lambasted Democratic leadership for attacking Joe Biden like a “firing squad” at a Harvard Kennedy School Institute of Politics forum Wednesday.
Jean-Pierre stood by Biden’s achievements, his cognitive fitness, and his decision to run for re-election during the talk. She echoed statements from Michael C. Donilon — a senior advisor to Biden and a current IOP fellow — who defended the former president on the same stage just two weeks ago.

“I believe in what we were trying to get done,” Jean-Pierre said. “I would not have come back into the administration, I don’t think, for anybody else.”

KJP, the first black and open lesbian to hold the job, was criticized by some as being a DEI hire. She had a more introspective take:
Jean-Pierre said the traditional demands of the role were compounded by the pressure to “represent many communities.”

“You have to outperform,” she said. “You have to be better than everybody before you, because you don’t want to be the last. You want people to see you doing the job and say, ‘Oh yeah, okay, we can see someone else who looks like you be in that job.’”

Former Biden press secretary Karine Jean Pierre on the post-debate fall-out.

“It was a firing squad…I had never seen anything like that before…that was shocking, shocking…It was truly, truly unfortunate. And I think it hurt us more than folks realized.”

Plenty of commentary on this post. Some Dems are very bitter.
For all Trump’s faults, failures, & his own questionable decline - MAGA/Repubs stood 10 toes down behind him. Biden gave a bad debate & Dems couldn’t even stay on code. It was pathetic.
It just feels like the moment she decides she wants to run in 2028, BidenWorld is going to irresponsibly start attacking @KamalaHarris for not digging out of the hole BidenWorld blatantly left her in.
Esp if she makes it clear her camapign is going to be BidenWorld-free.
Watch.
Almost all our national Democratic leaders failed us. They knew 82-year old Biden wasn’t up for another term but they said NOTHING.
Those 3 weeks broke me and I will never be the same. It made me numb and bitter. Expecting Kamala Harris to heal the party was a lot. She tried, God bless her! Let her rest.

It might be interesting to do a P&R Forum retrospective.  I remember the liberals here just losing their shit when we began to discuss the reporting that Biden was going to leave the race. To his credit, I think Respectful Robert was calling for Biden to step aside BEFORE the disastrous debate.

She always had that "deer caught in the headlights" look. But I haven't thought much of any of the Press Secretaries who've served in Republican administrations either.

I thought Dana Perino was a great Press Secretary. But she worked for W, so I don’t think Willy will share my admiration for her.

I've got to admit I have some respect for Perino. She would spin, sure. That's her job. But I don't think she was a blatant liar. She's also MUCH prettier than the picture you posted.

Dana Perino in my view is one of the classiest commentators going-She is smart. articulate
and just makes her points without going out of her way to insult. She's a true journalist, quite
unlike the mainstream media maggots that currently infest the airways. Am delighted Acosta and
Reid are gone. Good riddance. Have a great weekend, All
