for coronavirus as of today is 4.5%. In the US, its 1.5%. With that difference, I don't see how anyone could claim the current administration is not doing a good job managing this emergency.
Any idiot who thinks who is in the White House greatly effects the outcome of a pandemic is TSTTT. This virus does not care who is in charge. Our nation has been ill prepared all my life for a true a Pandemic. Trump is not someone I could ever vote for but honestly for the most part he is handling this as best that could be expected.
Most nations are struggling with COVID-19 and politics isn't the major factor in determining the spread. The quality an quantity of healthcare and the exposure rate of the disease is. We have both quality and quantity of healthcare in this nation. It's affordability may be an issue but we have world class healthcare in this nation. We as a nation are taking steps to flatten the curve of the spread, so we should have lower rates of death. Plus most that catch COVID-19 anywhere in the world will not be properly diagnosed as most have no or very mild symptoms and will not get tested so the actual death rate will be lower than the raw data would indicate.
Only a fool would blame this pandemic on and party or person. We have as a nation under both political parties have allowed our healthcare to be over dependant on China for medications and medical supplies. Have failed to properly prepare for a pandemic with stock piles of face masks and the like. All blame and credit for how this plays out belongs to our nation as a whole and not one man or party. Trump successes and failing here are not full on him. It is on us the people and the people we sent to office both past and present. One way or another we all deserve as a whole both the blame and the credit.
As I said in another thread, hindsight is always a critic’s best friend. I seriously doubt that if Hillary, Bernie Sanders, Joe Biden, or even Barack Obama were sitting in the White House today that the speed or extent of response would be significantly different. The fact is that politicians don’t want to spend money on things that won’t buy them votes. That’s why investments in addressing potential future problems never get off the ground. Let’s face it, our culture is based upon immediate gratification and the idea that when tomorrow’s problems come we’ll address them then, not now. And of course when those problems occur, that’s when the finger pointers come out criticizing those in office they don’t like. And since we don’t live in a perfect utopian world there will ALWAYS be finger pointers.
If any of the democrats you named had been in the white house, not a single one would have stopped incoming flights from China like Trump did. In fact, except for Obama, the others all condemned Trump for taking this step. He was called Xenophobe, racist, and many other things by Hillary, Bernie, Biden and most of the other Dem candidates still in the race at that time.
This one single factor differentiates our approach compared to the European countries who continued to allow flights from China for another month before cutting them off. This accounts for the reason why every single one of these European countries has a higher infection and death rate per capita than we do. History may see this as the most significant step taken by ANYONE during the coronavirus pandemic.
I dare to say, while you may be right, we have know way to know that. In the current political climate if Trump supports something the leftist talking head in power will oppose it even if it is exactly what they asked for in the past. And honestly when Obama was president Republicans wasn't much different. Hate twists logic. We don't know what they would do when not trying to bash everything Trump does out of blind hate.
People with short memories forget how WHO and democrats downplayed the risk. Remember the Chinese New Year celebration in NYC? Officials, including the mayor of NY and the health officials, said everyone should come out and show solidarity with the Chinese celebrating to rebuke xenophobic Trump.
.
Trump's reaction clearly slowed the seeding on the west coast. Unfortunately China's Belt and Road allowed the contagion to infiltrate through Italy (where the officials there proudly stood against xenophobia by telling everyone to hug a Chinese person) and other countries and that brought the contagion to the east coast of the USA.
With all due respect, I'll disagree,,,if Hillary, Bernie Sanders or Joe Biden had been in office Dr. Quick would have still been in the position to warn any administration, well except this one cause her position/Department was eliminated.
I would have bet that this virus would have been in alot better control.
Plus a Hillary, Bernie Sanders, Joe Biden administration would have the EXPERTS making the crucial decisions, not Jared. They would have LISTEN to the scientist and not Fox and Friends or Hannity..shit what have we come to.
And if a mortality rate of 1.5 vs 4.5 is managing the pandemic, then here's a number just to think about. 340M X 1.5= 5.1M...But let's not overact..say 200M X1.5=3M.....Shit I'll give 200X 1.0=2M....
Like Gov Jay Inslee ...we need a Tom Brady...instead we have Derek Anderson
Bottom line, this is here and this administration has totally fuck this up, and fighting with the Governors is silly.
during which time we COULD have been ramping up measures to make and distribute more masks, ventilators, etc. Then just today he want WAY in the other direction and said he wanted to enforce a quarantine on NY, NJ and CT. Then he ran back the other way when Badass Cuomo basically told him to fuck off.
He's an incompetent pussy.
The Trump Admin's expansion of its un-American travel ban is a threat to our security, our values and the rule of law. Barring more than 350 million people from predominantly African countries from traveling to the US, this rule is discrimination disguised as policy. -- Nancy Pelosi 1/13/20.
The premature travel ban to and from China by the current administration is just an excuse to further his ongoing war against immigrants. There must be a check and Balance on these restrictions. -- Chuck Schumer 2/5/2020
Also, you forgot to blame Obama.
Most testing is expensive so only those with really overt signs of sickness are going to get tested. From what we've seen, more than 90% of those tested are sick, but not sick with covid-19. So imagine expensive testing mostly coming up negative. So I think countries aren't testing consistently and therefore it is hard to compare rates.
.
So you have 90%+ of sick people testing negative, many of which will go on to die of their non-covid-19 disease. With poor testing they might be either thrown in the died for covid-19 bin, or untested covid-19 victims being thrown in the other causes bin.
.
In other words, data really sucks at the moment.
.
When Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico in 2017, there were ~20 "immediate" deaths. During the recovery, the death toll went way up to several thousand Maria related deaths. Public health experts have standard ways to analyze the data to estimate the excess deaths as a result of catastrophic events. Trump complained that there were only ~20 deaths and that public health experts were rigging the numbers against HIM(!). Trump thinks that the only way to die from a hurricane is if you are hit in the head with a flying telephone pole or blown off the roof of a skyscraper. In PR, hospitals were shut down and people who could have been saved died instead. Similarly, CV will have impacts beyond just those that die specifically of CV infection.
What else is new?
Do you not have a clue that the death rate here is based on the stage of the disease, not on what ANYONE has done. Not to mention that even now we know hardly anything about how this virus works.
Buy a clue.
