I don't know anything about Sanchez since I don't watch the Communist News Network. The two clips I viewed on Sanchez didn't look like a big deal to me. I've only heard him on the radio a couple times.
Jon Stewart however, most certainly is a bigot even when he's a funny bigot. He is extremely convinced of his own opinions, or perhaps he is fooling me and he is merely a jokester.
Learn something new every day, I had no idea Stewart is a Jew. Does he?http://jangle04.home.mindspring.com/1028.html
IMO CNN showed they are run by hyper sensitive wussies that can't take a joke, or the truth, no matter what race or religion they might be.
The three biggest wussies on the boob tube  agree, Sanchez crossed the line. One of them claims to be a girl, could that be true?

because this is NOT the black & white situation
that I first thought it was. In fact, I find the whole situation to be sad & unfortunate.

I think it would behoove John Stewart to make a serious comment about this incident which COULD
resolve things. If not, this could blow up into a serious confrontation between Latinos & Jews which is NOT what the already heavily polarized climate of this country needs at the moment.

I read his comments and I'll be damned if I can figure out where the racism is.

I love Jon Stewart's comedy. He is a great physical comedian. I really don't know much more about him and don't really care. His purpose is to entertain, and he does very well at it. I imagine my politics probably do differ significantly from his, but who gives a crap if he makes me laugh?

I am pretty sure I don't even know who Rick Sanchez is. I can't remember the last time I spent any time watching CNN. Its possible that Bush Sr. ws in office at the time.

But if CNN would be kind enough to point to which among Sanchez's statements was racist, I'd sure appreciate it. Unless someone amended the definition of racism while I wasn't looking, absolutely nothing he said fits the bill. Just more politically correct horseshit is all I see.

...remark, however, given that you are from the South, I suspect this is how you were brought up.

'Jew' should not be used as an adjective. It is almost always a pejorative. Remember Archie Bunker talking about his "Jew lawyers?"

That reminds me, when Republicans say "Democrat Party," "Democrat Senator,"  etc., it is also the case of using a noun as an adjective with the intent to insult.

For a cable news douchbag talking head, I rather liked Sanchez.

It seems a little strange to me that someone can get fired in this day and age for what they say when they're not at work. Do you guys think that's fucked up, or is Willy just being weird?

I am certainly glad I don't make my living "on the air", I wouldn't make it through the first day.

Not a good idea to talk bad about the company you are working for on air :)
What is hilarious is Ricky said about Jon Stewart.

He's not just a comedian. ... He can make and break careers," Sanchez said  :)

STFU. People gotta learn that when someone puts a microphone in front of your face, it's best not to say anything, especially on a topic like this.

For those of you who watched the movie Bull Durham, there was a great scene on a bus ride between Kevin Costner and Tim Robbins. Robbins, a young stupid minor league pitcher with a ton a talent, and Costner a veteran minor league catcher whose job is to teach Robbins how to pitch. Robbins reaches out to Costner on a bus ride to teach him more. The next lesson was for Robbins to learn his cliches. The point is, if you are rich, famous and/powerful, say nothing, or at best, repeat specific non-inflammatory cliches.

Now I do find it interesting that Oliver Stone, another off the chart liberal, basically said the same stuff as Sanchez, but without the same consequences.

Watching liberals going after liberals is actually a fun sport.

you failed to mention that I used the same pejorative in your subject heading against members of the right; evidence can be found in the link below.

Croix missed a crucial detail : why wasn't Oliver Stone subjected to same excoriation that
Sanchez was ( both are liberals, btw ) Because Stone is 1/2 Jewish , that's why.

Which illustrates up a famous double standard--members of a racial/ethnic/religious group can  use "humorous" slurs describing their group among THEMSELVES, but is VERBOTEN from someone
OUTSIDE the group to use those same slurs.

I have no idea what you and marikod are talking about. Nevertheless, I guess you are saying that Oliver Stone gets a free pass. You do know he ain't a real Jew. Yes, his father is/was Jewish, but his mother is/was Roman Catholic. And in the Jewish world, Mom trumps Dad.

Now, if Sanchez or Stone had said something like, "Jews have a disproportionate amount of influence in the media based on their population size", vs Jews control the media. Would that be OK? You can say blacks have a higher incarceration based on population, or hispanics have a higher number of undocumented aliens based on population. All are factual, and you could probably get away with it.

But sometimes it's best to keep your mouth shut. Just use a Kevin Costner cliche, "I'm just here to help the ball club".

marikod 1 Reviews 1834 reads

Stone made functionally the same comment - branding him a "left wing Hitler" even in jest while you properly recognized that the issue with Sanchez was too complex for a knew jerk reaction.

So Stone's Jewish heritage does not explain your disdain for his rather mild comments and your more reasonable position re Sanchez.

St. Croix's point is a different one - he properly laments the lack of judgment by one in Sanchez's position. All the guy had to do was use the usual cliches and we'd be watching him next instead of Elliot Spitzer.

that didn't exist with Stone. Sanchez was being continually "teased" ( some might say "bullied or "baited" ) by Stewart. Stone was NOT in the same position & should have known better. As someone pointed out here ( Quad, I think ) some people ( IE, Sanchez ) can't handle that kind of treatment & "snap", which is what prompted his comments on Jews & the media. I say this paradoxically, because I don't like Sanchez; NOT because he's Hispanic, but because I've seen him on CNN & regard him as a high-strung jerk. Still, I don't think that justifies Stewart's continual needling of him, which may of have went over the line. In fact, race shouldn't have entered the picture at all in this situation. As I said, this is a complex situation.

AS for Sanchez's & Stone's comments, I'm thick skinned & they didn't bother me. However, we live in a very PC climate & I can see how they can offend many others. Croix is spot on ( one of few times I will say this ) when he said they
should have showed some form of elemental judgment & STFU.

But at least Sanchez & Stone didn't say they were
gonna burn Korans on a youtube video-----:(

anti-semitic intent from statements that the  "Jews dominate the media" is kind of silly bc, as St. Croix points out, if you choose your words carefully - perhaps "there are a disproportionate number of Jews in the media" - you are simply making a correct (or perhaps incorrect) statement of fact.

If I tell you that African Amercians dominate pick up basketball every where I play, is that a racist remark, or simply a statement of what I perceive? Ask St. Croix, when choosing sides at Manhattan beach, is he going to pick me, or the brother? Is he a racist for assuming the brother is better bc of his race?

I think it is far more reasonable to assume that when Stone and Sanchez made such comments in a live interview that they simply did not choose their words carefully. Since you seem to disdain political correctness for its own sake, I'm surprised that is not your position.
