Then please explain why Florida Gov. Jeb Bush:
1. Married Columba Garnica Gallos, a Mexican national and woman of "color" in 1974?
2. Why the governor broke ranks with his family's longstanding Protestant tradition and converted to Roman Catholicism?

going to sit down for a beer with you--nor Jeb for that matter. And what was Barbara Bush's comment many years ago when she referred to her own grandchildren as "the little dark ones?" Everyone knows that after they leave Kennebunkport, Babs counts all the silverware and burns the linens.
about the silverware and linens! Too funny, even if it was a dig at the Bushes!

Speaking of elitist WASPs, I doubt that you are likely to get an invite from the Gore's or the Kerry's either.
Now Wild Willy is a different story.I met him in Arkansas when he was first Governor, and while I doubt that I would buy a used car from the man. He was definitely the type that you could sit down and have a beer with.
"Wild Willy" - that has a ring to it that "Slick Willie" never did. "Slick" always sounded too much like envy.
In fact, hell ... I'd rather think the President of the United States just maybe has BETTER - MORE IMPORTANT THINGS TO DO than to sit down and have a 'beer' with me ...
BUT, that WAS one of the "made up" reasons (doubt people actually believed it, but it is something they thought and mentioned publicly)that people said they had voted for 'W' Bush.
I guess the right just still doesn't see the hypocrisy going on ?
You can't use the defense "well the left is no better / different" on an issue that wasn't an issue being supported by them in the first place, can you ?
Republicans, CLAIM to be the party of "values", yet when they get caught with their hand in the cookie jar, you reply back well the Democrats are no better. THEY NEVER CLAIMED THEY WERE !
Republicans, CLAIM to be the party that's "strong on Defense", yet when they cut benefits for veterans, close down bases, cut pay for active duty, don't supply active duty with the equipment and armor needed, on and on, etc., you reply back well the Democrats are no better. THEY NEVER CLAIMED THEY WERE !
Republicans, CLAIM to be the party of "fiscal conservatives", yet when they get caught spending like mad men, and raising the deficit like it's a meaningless concern, and create the largest government bureaucracy in the history of the USA, you reply back well the Democrats are no better. THEY NEVER CLAIMED THEY WERE !
Like I said, I guess the republicans just can't see the hypocrisy going on ? Maybe after '06 and '08 you will ? We'll see.
BUT, then again ......
"By an 8-point margin, voters are more likely to call themselves Democrats than Republicans"
(snip)
For the first time, senior Republican consultants and lawmakers are warning the White House that Bush's base is perilously close to deserting him. The poll underscores their concerns: By an 8-point margin, voters are more likely to call themselves Democrats than Republicans; there was no gap in self-identification a year ago.

On this score, we are fucked.
This Zin, is why I cited Tyler.
The Genie is outta the box. It is an all out race to promise the most.....
Fiscal restraint is tailpipe smoke.

that it is not true. The recent administrations that spent like drunken sailors were Reagan and junior. The deficit was eliminated by Clinton. In fact, since Roosevelt it has always been the job of the Democrats to clean up the mess that the Republicans have left in their wake.
Also, I think (I won't call him mister)Rove still isn't out of the woods with his own problems, and can therefore his "SPIN" doctoring can be devalued rather quickly these days, example you're seeing the media's less willingness to play ball with administration, and more feet getting held to the fire on many more issues of late.
Lastly, how effective can Rove be if he's behind bars ?
Just saying.

The view from a Republican:
Strike 1: The Iraq war is a nightmare;
Strike 2: Katrina was a deadly mess;
Strike 3: President Bush and the Republican Congress are spending money like drunken sailors and running up huge deficits.
It's three strikes and you're out in my book. If things don't turn around, and quickly, I expect the Democrats to take either the House, or Senate, or both, in 2006.
Even Mr. Karl Rove and his enormous political skills may not be able to save the GOP this time.
beers with. If you can get me a date with Jenna Jameson (or Jenna Bush for that matter) to toss down a brew, I'm there. That's not why I vote for presidents, though. I want him to run the fucking country (and not like his own personal Enron.)
I'd be honored to have a beer with you ... and I might even bring along Jeb! ![]()
I never said that Jeb Bush doesn't have his good points. However, the man loves power in general and political power particularly. Nothing too much wrong with that.
Except that the quickest and most practical way to that for him will always be his family and his family connections.
In the 2000 election, when brother W was in trouble in Florida, who got on the job double-time to bail him out? Jeb.
Now Jeb, no doubt, doesn't get along too well with his brother. But he knows his brother will return favors to him-- if brother George can in three years.
And I think your cracked if you don't think Jeb didn't run for the governorship with the idea that he'd eventually be president. Bush's are also quite competitive with eachother. Jeb will have to show his Dad and his brother how much better he does in the office. There's no way he could watch them win it and not go for it himself.
No doubt to me, he would be the best of the three of them. Unfortunately to me, that's not good enough.
More than likely, you are right. Equally as likely, he will be better than whatever the Dems nominate, and that is even more unforunate. Last but not least is the fact that I will most likely end up voting for him, and that is the most unfortunate fact of all.
Jeb Bush Says He's Not Seeking White House (AP)
Wed Jun 1st 2005 at 12:56 pm ET
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Gov. Jeb Bush on Wednesday brushed off his father's public suggestions that he should run for president — and that he secretly wants to do so.
Gov. Bush, who has repeatedly and sometimes testily said he won't run for president in 2008, was asked Wednesday morning about the remarks made by his father, former President George H.W. Bush, on Tuesday's edition of CNN's Larry King Live.
"Oh, Lord," Gov. Bush said as he laughed. Shaking his head, he said: "I love my dad."
Asked if he is running, the younger Bush simply shook his head no.
Former President Bush had said the night before that he would like to see the Florida governor run for the White House.
"Someday I would, yes," said the elder Bush, who turns 81 this month. He said Jeb Bush would be "awfully good" as president.
"This guy's smart, big and strong," he said of his son. "Makes the decisions. And you know, not without controversy, but he's led that state."
The elder Bush said "the timing's wrong" because Jeb Bush has said "he doesn't want to do it." But the former president then added: "Nobody believes that."
Jeb Bush will end his second term as governor in January 2007. His brother George ends his second presidential term in January 2009. Neither can seek re-election because of term limits.
