nothing wrong with debt in government or business if it is used to leverage growth.  Obama used all of that debt for giveaways and bailouts fpr his corporate donors.  Trump's debt increases have been fueling unprecedented growth in the economy.  The numbers don't lie.

engaging in wishful thinking.  Maybe you could name just one of them so we know who the idiots are.  The economy  can still go higher.  All the economic supports are there.

Honestly, NOBODY KNOWS what the market or the economy will do. You  can always find pundits making wild guesses on both sides. Half of them are right but no one knows which half until it happens.
The problem is that your Lord and Master has made the stock market the barometer for the success of his financial leadership and has talked about it continually. So he has a vested interest in talking the market up, which explains his primitive war with the Fed's Powell.
Everyone would do well NOT to try to predict where the market will be around election time.

Raising rates NINE times while inflation is COMPLETELY in check is even heavier handed than what Greenspan did. To his credit Powell has come to his senses and has taken his foot off the brakes where it comes to the economy.

One other thing to keep in mind, with a 22 TRILLION DOLLAR debt, each 1% rise in interest rates costs us $220 BILLION in debt service which gets added to both the deficit and the national debt. Lets suppose we are running a Trillion dollar deficit, which we are, and interest rates have risen by 2% since Trump was elected, it doesn't take a genius to figure out that over 40% of our current deficit is due to the rising interest rates which are largely due to the Fed, a case that's even easier to make when you look at the rest of the world where NEGATIVE interests rates are becoming the norm. Not to mention the fact that the Fed has given the Trump economy a double barreled attack by enacting quantitative TIGHTENING, which has been sucking on average about $50 BILLION a month out of the economy. If Trumps economy had received the same kid glove treatment as Obama's, our GDP would most likely be growing at well over 4% each year and our deficit would be a fraction of what it is today.

Spot on, but the trick for the Fed is to maintain a balance between solid GDP growth without allowing runaway inflation.  Historically, if GDP grows too fast, inflation kicks in and that means higher prices for everything, effectively offsetting some of the growth gains that trickle down to average Americans.  Keeping the mob happy on a moderate growth curve will get Trump re-elected.

Even with a strong economy and a market near its highs, Trump's poll numbers are still WELL below 50%, which is unprecedented. So a good economy and a strong market are no guarantee he'll get re-elected.

I am not seriously suggesting that Powell should have left interest rates at ZERO like they were for the entire eight years of Obama. I was simply making a point and comparing the headwinds that the Trump economy has faced from the Fed compared to the forty knot tail wind afforded to the Obama economy to little avail.

What Powell SHOULD have done was actually look at the facts instead of assuming that faster growth had NOT led to any increase in inflation. Not only was inflation totally under control but it was UNDER the target rate of 2% deemed to be healthy for the economy. That last rate hike was TOTALLY uncalled for and Trump rightly read Powell the riot act for it, and uncharacteristically for a Fed Chairman, Powell was pretty much forced by the facts to concede the Trump was correct and that he was wrong.

I know that no one here except perhaps you looks at the bond market, or even has the slightest understanding of it, but the bond market was SCREAMING to the Fed to leave rates alone late last year. Of course Powell is not the first Fed Chairman to have too heavy a hand, Greenspan was one of the worst and caused two recessions by putting his thumb too firmly on the scale. Genius my ass. The only genius Fed Chairman we have had during my lifetime was Bernanke, if there is anyone on the planet who deserves the credit for saving our economy from the depths of the "Great Recession" it was he.

The coupon rate for bonds is fixed for the term of the bond.  When interest rates go up, existing bonds, which were issued at lower rates, get discounted and investors holding them take a loss.  At the same time, new bond issues carry a higher rate, in line with the fed rate, and corporations must pay more interest to bondholders in order to borrow money from the public, and this cuts into their retained earnings and slows growth.  The corporations can hedge a little by offering to buy back the low interest older bonds at a few points above market, and they won't have to wait and redeem them at full face value at maturity.

For homeless people.  As long as you don't hit any pedestrians while you're peeping off the sidewalk in public, they will let you get away with almost anything, so its not surprising you have never been arrested.
