Funny how thinks work out

It seems like just a couple of days ago almost everyone here was celebrating the end of the GOP as we know it, and blaming (or crediting) it all on Trump. Now here's a Dem pondering the possibility of the GOP not only controlling both the Executive and Legislative branches of government but having a true super majority to boot.

Personally, I doubt it will happen, Trump and the GOP were not "swept in on a mandate" Trump didn't even win the popular vote, and the GOP stilly has huge dissent in their ranks, I am confident the GOP, just like the Dems is more than capable of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory

Here are the numbers:

231,556,622 eligible voters
46.9% didn't vote
25.6% voted for Clinton
25.5% voted for Trump
1.7% voted for Johnson

The people who didn't vote could have elected Gary Johnson, Jill Stein or anyone else by a wide margin.

Clinton received far fewer votes than Obama did in 2008 and 2012.  Trump also received fewer votes than either John McCain or Mitt Romney.  The real winner of this election was apathy, thanks to two shitty candidates, but especially Trump

you may want to point the first finger at the Dems.

Trump got 60M
Romney got 61M
McCain got 60M

The Reps were pretty consistent

Clinton got 60.3M (I did not round down in order to show she won the popular vote)
Obama got 66M
Obama got 69M

Who didn't show up for the Dems? It's not a rhetorical question. I haven't compared votes by ethnic group or gender. I guess breaking the glass ceiling is not as important as breaking the color barrier. I would be interested to know how many people voted in the election, but not for President.

There goes my dream for divided government

Kind of a slap to both Clinton and Obama, who told them over and over last week to show up.

...in a total personal rebuke. Kind of almost like if stating "...not this woman!" Sad...

For the past 6 months the checkout counters have the gossip rags trashing the Clintons big time.

easily led by tabloids - fucking spare me

condescending, sanctimonious, dishonest little pricks

you're gonna see a LOT of libs exposing their TRUE beliefs in the weeks to come

pay attention for the next time they pretend to be holier than thou

it won't be lon

There were a lot of blacks who voted for Trump. Even black democrats. The ones that voted for Clinton look like they had a loss of a family member. When they see someone smiling this week they know the person voted from Trump. When a smiling white sees a smiling black they smile even more to know that the black voted for Trump.

.........and now the asswipes are protesting. Please give me a freaking break! It's too late, just get prepared for at least 2 years of dictatorial rule until Democrats take the Senate and perhaps the House.

...Dems will have 23 senators up for re-election in 2018 plus two Independents who caucus with them.  Five of the Dems are in red states.

Republicans only have eight up for re-election.  Unless Trump screws the pooch, it looks very bleak for the Dems.  Two years isn't very long to fuck things up.

Janet Yellen, the Federal Reserve Chairman, could decide to start raising short term interest rates aggressively and watch what happens to stocks on Wall Street, they would crater.  Stocks would sell off like a bat out of hell.

Greenspan killed the economy in 91, opening the door for Bill Clinton to win. So it's not like it's unthinkable.

A quarter point rise would trim a thousand points off the Dow, a full point most likely would have at least four times the effect.

JakeFromStateFarm246 reads

First of all, the Fed has basically already promised that for December and it's baked into today's numbers.
We'll see, but if your dire prediction doesn't happen, you WILL be reminded about it.

GaGambler187 reads

After the Trump rally has made the bubble even bigger over the last few days, yes I do believe the Dow will lose about a thousand points for every 25 basis point increase in rates.

Let's ask WB and I will agree that whatever he says we just assume the opposite. If he agrees with me, i will concede that you are most likely correct, but OTOH if he agrees with you, I will then be certain that I am correct.

There are people in other countries who are repressed and who can't vote, in fact who can't speak out against their leadership. And half of our population takes that right, and responsibility for granted.

It's really very sad and I'm ashamed of those who could vote that didn't.

stucaboy133 reads

is all about.  They live in social systems where their leaders are selected by other means and for thousands of years their system worked.  Things tend to go to shit when they are given the option to vote and have no idea what is happening.  You are correct in that half our population take voting for granted and understand it.  The other half are sitting around the camp fire smoking pot and wondering "what the fuck just happened".
