Can anyone explain to me why the US foreign policy establishment hates Russia so much? This is a recent thing. We had stable relations with Russia for decades after the fall of the Soviet Union. Then for some reason, Deep Staters went bat shit. They’ll excuse it and say something absurd like “Russia invaded” some tiny piece of land just big enough to put a Walmart shopping center. Well if that pissed us off so much then why can no one find these places on a map? Are they really that important? There’s plenty of land wars happening in Africa too. For some reason, no one gives a shit. So why is Russia such a big deal when the shit happening in Africa isn’t?
Then they’ll say Russia has his political opponents put in prison. What, you mean like the Entrapment Day protesters? Like pro-life protesters who did nothing but pray outside a baby killing factory?

I think you can't subtract Russian history from Putin's goals, as he pointed out. Ukraine itself was at one time the original Russia. Russia had a long and tumultuous history of being invaded, the last of which was the Hitler's. There was the cruelty of Stalin, the targeted starvation of Ukraine and general starvation in the Soviet Union during the years of collectivization. Putin, of course, was too young to be involved in Stalin's government, being born only a few months before Stalin died. In his interview with Tucker he also criticized a lot of Soviet decisions.

So it is no doubt that given Russian history, they are wary of invasion. There are also a lot of natural resources in eastern Ukraine, coal, natural gas, various minerals and farmland.
