FCC Chair Threatens Media: Fall In Line With Trump, Or Lose Broadcasting Licenses
Federal Communications Commission Chair Brendan Carr threatened media stations with losing their broadcast licenses if they don't fall in line producing positive war coverage.

"Broadcasters that are running hoaxes and news distortions - also known as the fake news - have a chance now to correct course before their license renewals come up," Carr posted on X Saturday. "The law is clear. Broadcasters must operate in the public interest, and they will lose their licenses if they do not."

Carr was referring to a Truth Social post by President Donald Trump, who whined over negative media coverage of the ongoing war with Iran started by the U.S. and Israel.

Trump claimed reports about Air Force refueling planes hit by an Iranian missile strike at a Saudi Arabian air base were "intentionally misleading."

“The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal (in particular), and other Lowlife ‘Papers’ and Media actually want us to lose the War,” Trump posted. “Their terrible reporting is the exact opposite of the actual facts!”

Trump claimed the planes were not struck. But it's increasingly difficult to take the president at his word as the war progresses. Trump has refused to give a timeline, saying the war will end "when I feel it in my bones," has bragged about taking out "100%" of Iran's military while begging allied nations for help, and has denied the U.S. struck an elementary school in Iran that killed more than 170 people, despite evidence that points to the U.S. as being responsible.

For all of these life-costing blunders, Trump and Carr blame the press.
"The American people have subsidized broadcasters to the tune of billions of dollars by providing free access to the nation’s airwaves," Carr said in his post. "It is very important to bring trust back into media, which has earned itself the label of fake news."

Trump will manipulate the FCC to go after unfriendly media outlets
I called it but really ., who didn’t see this coming

rules and standards for news programs that allow partisan reporting under the guise of "news" to be challenged by an opposing opinion.  When there is a carve-out to insure integrity in reporting, it does not fall under the first
amendment.  Revoking the license of the offending station is the usual remedy to insure honesty and integrity.

If I was FCC chair, I would require BOTH CBS and FOX News to invite an opinion piece delivered by an employee of the other news station whenever there is partisan reporting that misstates the facts.  News reporting used to be clean and unbiased, but now it's not.

100% correct.     It was proven with the whole midterms in TX shit that happened.    People tried to blame TRUMP when it was all written out about how you have to give equal time if you want to be considered "NEWS"... there is a difference between "NEWS" and "ENTERTAINMENT".

I actually called this YEARS ago when people were taking John Stewart as legitimate news.    He was on comedy central which is ENTERTAINMENT under the FCC.    So he can manipulate and say what he damn well pleases.    But then show hosts like Maddow, Tucker, Lemon, etc.  All started to get more into that "entertainment" realm like Stewart because they saw how popular he was.   The "directing" or "steering" of information/lies to push a narrative.    NOW the FCC is finally telling the shows to get back in their lane.    YES even fox will need to do this.

But yeah..... orange man bad for following the rules set up by the FCC for years.    He just enforces them while others didn't.    Like IMMIGRATION!!!!!!

until 1987 but it was repealed. Thus there is no longer any requirement "to give equal time."  Also, your comparison of Jon Stewart to Rachel Maddow etc. is bogus. Stewart makes no bones about being a comic and a satirist. Maddow, Tucker, etc. are certainly biased in their own way but they are NOT either comics or satirists.
God, you are just hopeless.

Stewart steers his audience.... so do all of the others.      If you are too blind to see this you are truly lost.

None of those "news" shows actually give an unbiased opinion.   JUST LIKE STEWART or any late night host.

Also why do you think the whole "Crockett" fiasco with her opponent happened with late night TV.   It was because of regulations.

And I didn't expect you to have the intelligence to understand that I actually SAID Stewart and the others had a political point of view.
Thanks for not disappointing me.

for low-information voters, there are two kinds of "news" hosts; "opinion" hosts, which slant the news to their own bias, and "hard-news" reporters, which will give both viewpoints.  Many voters can't tell the difference because they don't stay informed about what is real and what is fake, plus the fact that hard-news hosts are a dying breed.  According to periodic polls this past year, the most trusted hard-news reporter on Cable News is former WH press secretary, Dana Perino.
