An excellent piece--very thought provoking!

As a former Republican of 30 years+, I feel the exact opposite.  The Republican Party left me.

What did the Republican party do to alienate you?

Well, putting the Tea Party in Congress who have no intention of governing. Denying that Trump ever had anything to do with the insurrection (ie, the big lie).  I am guessing that is why the majority of former Republicans left the party.  IMHO, if the Republicans told Trump to take a hike, a lot more former Republicans and Independants would give them another chance.  Also, their positions on guns.   There are more things, but for years I voted straight Republican.  Could not ever vote for a Dem.  I would still vote for a Republican if someone like a John Kasich ran.

Historical Voting Data and polling data clearly shows that younger people vote more Lib (Dem) and older people vote more Con (Rep). Con older people aren't spawned out of the ether. People trend towards being more Con as they age ... as has the author of the article.

and other righties who chimed in apparently cannot do.  The OP said:
"This was written by a man who had been a solid left Dem all his life..."

That shows the OP knows NOTHING about the author of the article.  The author is an ISRAELI, not an American.  He was born in Israel, served in the Israeli armed forces and didn't come to America until he was 23.  He has never sought American citizenship so he cannot vote in American elections and therefore has never registered as "a solid left Dem all his life..."

Tablet magazine is for right-wing Jews.  Right-wing Jews are emphatically pro-Israel.  They want the US to support Israel come hell or high water.  Their loyalty lies with "which party is best for Israel," NOT America.

Right-wing Jews clutched their pearls and screamed like their hair was on fire when America elected Barack HUSSEIN Obama to be President.  That started the migration of Jews to the anti-Semitic GQP.  Right-wing Jews are about as smart as this woman:

Do you disagree with the author's position that the Dems (left) are now the party of elites and intolerance? I think this piece makes a great case and captures the thoughts of a LOT of people right now.

Honestly, what do you find so compelling about the Dems right now?? What does ANYONE find positive about Biden/Harris, AOC, "The Squad", etc, etc etc?? Is ANYTHING about our current administration and the prominent political figures on the Dem side giving us a positive vision for the future? All I see is soaring gas prices, rampant inflation, supply shortages, and a worsening border crisis. I don't see ANYTHING positive from the Dems--not one damn thing. And that's the sentiment of this op/ed piece!!

I didn't even get around to mentioning rising crime rates and a declining stock market. (Christ almighty--is there ONE THING that the Dems can say has improved from January 2020 onward???!!! Just ONE thing!!)

OK - Mega MAGA moron Donald J. Trump lost to Joe Biden in November, 2020 and lost again in his January 6, 2021
failed attempt at a coup d'état to overthrow the duly elected President of the United States of America.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!

That was to oust Trump from the White House, and he did that.

Sadly for America, he hasn’t been able to do anything else but screw things up.

So you actually like the current condition of the USA. You  wanted Trump out so badly that all the problems we're facing right now mean nothing to you. Unreal!! (The "never Trumpers" would rather have the country going down the shithole---TDS is truly a frightening syndrome!!)

First, cks jumps in to white knight for the OP because CDL is "taking a break" so cks needs to white knight for any righty.
Then neither cks nor the OP are willing to admit that the OP meant to say January, 2021 NOT January, 2020.

Finally, the OP seems to think "never Trumpers" are Democrats when in fact they are REPUBLICANS.

Hope to see many, many more posts from the OP.  He's about as bright as the rest of the righties who post here.

every time he realizes he’s losing a point.

The question was simple. Name one good thing Biden had done. I named one accomplishment that Dems would point to. BigPapasan apparently can’t find another.

Exactly correct!! He does what so many of the Dems do--when you ask them a direct question that they know deep down will make them acknowledge failures or shortcomings they'll sidestep it with some "rabbit hole" type deflection which includes sneers and name calling. I asked Big Papasan to name ONE good thing the Biden administration has done!! He's proving my point because he hasn't done it!!

...think they can get away with it?  When eroticspirit posted this:
"I asked Big Papasan to name ONE good thing the Biden administration has done!!"  eroticspirit LIED HIS ASS OFF!!!!

What eroticspirit REALLY asked:
"is there ONE THING that the Dems can say has improved from January 2020 onward???!!!

Righty eroticspirit would rather LIE HIS ASS OFF about what he posted rather than admit he may have made a mistake.

I answered the question exactly the way eroticspirit asked it.  I can't help it if he doesn't know when we hold the election for President.

Deflection once AGAIN---proves my point!! (I knew it!!)

OK BigPapasan---I'm going to ask one more time--but I'm going to try and ask in such a way that there's NO ambiguity!!

Since January 20, 2021--the day Joe Biden was sworn in as 46th President of the United States--what has his administration done FROM THAT DAY ONWARD to make our country a stronger and more prosperous nation?? From January 20, 2021 to the present day--what are the accomplishments of the Biden administration??

Look forward to your replies, which will, I'm sure be thoughtful, reflective, and with an erudition surpassing anything previously posted in all TER history!!

I'd say that the Infrastructure Bill is a good start. US infrastructure is falling apart and needs major repairs, upgrades, and replacements. Once it gets going, it will spur the economy all over the country.

I will agree that we have major infrastructure issues in the USA--and at least this legislation provides a plan for future improvements/enhancements, etc. That's ONE thing I'll credit his administration for getting done. Unfortunately, all of the other issues right now are overwhelming--and I'm not seeing any viable plans to address them!!

He infrastructure Bill is a complete pork barrel pay off for Blue states that handed their support to Biden hence way it isn’t going to be effective.

I’ve come to the conclusion all of this isn’t Biden’s fault. Seriously Biden can’t tie his own shoes anymore, what I want to know is, who is the Bond villain pulling the DNCs strings?

Why are so many Reps who voted AGAINST it, trying to claim credit for it back in their home districts? Even McConnell (who voted for it), praised the fact that money was coming to KY for needed repairs:
http://thehill.com/homenews/senate/580763-mcconnell-infrastructure-bill-a-godsend-for-home-state-of-kentucky/
"McConnell: Infrastructure bill a ‘godsend’ for Kentucky."
"... He pointed to Kentucky’s infrastructure report card from the American Society of Civil Engineers, which gives it a C-minus.  “I’m surprised we even got a C,” McConnell told WKYT. “We have a lot of infrastructure needs, both in rural areas and with big bridges. It’s a godsend for Kentucky.” ..."
.
Is all that money for KY -- even rural, solid Republican KY -- also pork barrel spending?

If he can't parse words with you to deflect from answering, then after you clarify the question, he just disappears.  A Kool-aid drinker, AND a magician, all rolled into one.  Lol

You (plural: CDL, willy, Lost, cks, et al.) should look in the mirror. All of you have avoided replying to direct challenges to refute information that I have posted, almost always with links to sources.

Do you all STILL think that Trump won the 2020 election?

Sweet mother of GOD!!! The wiggling no wait, writhing you do to not newer the question.

Here’s a question are you enjoying the current state of the country under Democratic leadership? Your side has it all... and here we are, 🤢 🤮

Thanks LS--the question really should be: Do you like where we are as a nation at this point in time?!!
(How anybody can be satisfied at the current state of affairs in the US right now is either in complete denial or living under a rock since January 20, 2021.)

over the weekend on this question, and they said that 87% of voters do not believe our country is in a good place right now.  The other 13% must be the Progressive elites.  Lol

The ABC/Ipsos poll is weighted about 75% Democratic, I think they should charge Trump, too, and put an end to all of this stuff.  I read the damage on Jan. 6th was about $10,000,000, so give Trump a bill, let him cut a check for the damages, and let's all move on.   If he doesn't pay, then take away his presidential pension to cover the damages.
