If the CA National Guard had it's personell and equipment (including tanker aircraft) at home instead of away having an adventure these fires could well have been snuffed early.
Not just my opinion:

Oh, and Faux News ran a commentary this morning that laid the blame for the fires on AlQaeda. OK, fox guys - we were fighting them over there so we wouldn't have to fight them over here. that didn't work, so now can we bring our guys back here to fight them?

Yeah, that seems a bit extreme.  Can you get a link?  that's phenomenal if true.

Yes, it is true.  Brilliant bit of reporting, considering 1) it was from a memo written in 2003, not 4-excuse me-5 days ago; 2) California was not mentioned, but Colorado and some other western states were; 3) the intel was that the fires would be set simultaneously-IN THE SUMMER!!

FixedNews-we report, you shut up and shake your head in total befuddlement!

But so might contractors looking to replace buildings on certain land, or businesses looking to collect on insurance policies. They might have taken advantage of this situation.

It can't be American capitalists and the profit motive, could it?

""Oh, and Faux News ran a commentary this morning that laid the blame for the fires on AlQaeda""

anyone listening to that clip knows they were speculating, NOT "laying blame"

only a psychopath would lie so blatantly about something so easily disproved....

Bullshit. They were fearmongering - which they do consistently and very very well, as they have you completely snowed. You're so freaking brainwashed you can't se it when it's in front of your eyes.

to people they regard as morons.  So they really push the envelope of creating news, by gossiping about arsonists and terrorists in the same breath.

This gets real close to creating phony news.  You have to parse what is being said, and they sure aren't aiming at the parsing audience.

This isn't asking critical questions of a politician in half-hopes he'll say something dumb enough to keep us awake.

Now when Letterman or Leno does this (let alone a reporter), the right wing hyperventilates.   Why?  Not because they're bad people, but because that's what they do.  Some people breathe instinctively, right-wingers hyperventilate instinctively.  Then they sling shit around, and are baffled and neurotic when people sling back.

It's just the nature of the world.
