...I have stayed off the politics since this board splintered away from General.  I heard the other night that Kerry could pick Bill Clinton as a running mate if he wanted.  There is only a restriction on running for election but not serving.  If Kerry ran with Clintion (Bill), he would trump Bush-Cheney.  But my major interest in this would be to see a Clinton versus Cheney debate!

I personally believe that Cheney would wax Slick Willie's ass. Truth usually trumps lies, and Slick Willie lies even when the truth would suffice.

But it would never happen.  To suggest that "[t]here is only a restriction on running for election but not serving" is the type of legalism that only someone who thinks that Arkansas Slick should not have been impeached for his perjury and obstruction of justice could love.  Obviously, the Twelfth Amendment prohibits what you suggest, providing that "no person constitutionally ineligible to the office of President shall be eligible to that of Vice-President of the United States."

It is required that any person running for the Vice-Presidency be qualified to serve as President. Bill's previous two terms excludes him from running.

example 1:
Dick Cheney on 7/30/2000 said,  “But what I'll have to do, assuming we're successful [in the election], is divest myself, that is, sell any remaining shares that I have in the company.”

Fact:
A congressional report found that Cheney still owns “more than 433,000 Halliburton stock options,” including “100,000 shares at $54.50 per share, 33,333 shares at $28.125 and 300,000 shares at $39.50 per share.” - CNN, 9/25/03

example 2:
Dick Cheney on 3/22/2004 said, "Well, [Clarke] wasn't in the loop, frankly, on a lot of this stuff…”

Fact:
"The Government's interagency counterterrorism crisis management forum (the Counterterrorism Security Group, or "CSG") chaired by Dick Clarke met regularly, often daily, during the high threat period." - White House Press Release, 3/21/04

example 3:
Dick Cheney on 1/22/2004 said “I severed my ties with Halliburton when I became a candidate for Vice President in August of 2000.”

Fact:
"Vice President Dick Cheney received $178,437 in deferred pay last year from Halliburton, the Texas oil-field services company he once headed that has received billion-dollar government contracts in Iraq." - Reuters, 4/13/04

Kerry will not win no matter who he runs with. Before it's over he'll change his mine anyway.

since the above is not a paraphrase; it's a quotation.  But if you want to spend more time pining away for Slick Willie, go right ahead.
