Currently, immigrants are allowed to enter the US LEGALLY and remain in the US LEGALLY to seek asylum. It can take months to years to get their asylum hearings. If they lose their hearing, they must leave the US. It is my understanding that MOST immigrants are LEGAL immigrants until the system resolves their asylum requests and they (a) remain legal or (b) they then become ILLEGAL immigrants if they stay past the time allowed for them to leave.

Prior to WWII or maybe the 1950s, there were no government programs to assist immigrants. They sought assistance (temporary lodging, food, etc.) from charitable organizations or individuals, all with different degrees of success. Job and other opportunities were much different back (e.g., manual labor).

As the Nazi party expanded in the 1930s, many people sought to leave Europe for safe havens. Japan accepted Euro immigrants (which angered Hitler), China accepted Euro immigrants, Cuba accepted Euro immigrants, the US accepted Euro immigrants. Many Euro immigrants to the US were highly educated scientists; they did NOT receive government aid and did not take jobs from US scientists. Various organizations raised money to fund NEW fellowships or jobs for immigrant scientists at Rockefeller (now University), Princeton, etc., etc..

At some point (during WWII?), the government started to provide aid and comfort to immigrants upon entry. Since then, the amount of gov aid has been increasing by law or as a result of lawsuits and so on.

"The US needs to reform its immigration laws and policies" has been a constant refrain for decades. Major reform bills have died in Congress because Reps and Dems can't agree or reach a compromise. It is a HOT BUTTON issue without an "EASY" button solution despite the claims of characters like Trump or Vivek.

The most OBVIOUS of all solutions. We have a military. A very well funded one. It’s sole real purpose is to protect the country from foreign invasion. Just shoot the people invading the country. It’s *precisely* what every single country has always done since the dawn of time.

Immigrants approaching the borders are doing so legally. They are entering the country at the checkpoints legally. They are obeying the current laws. You can't shoot them for obeying the law.

The role of the US Military at the border is very limited and subject to current laws and legal standards.

Let me rephrase: What LAWS would you like to see changed and in what ways? Your first suggestion is probably, "We hereby legalize the US Military to shoot anyone who is approaching the border, crossing the border, or is already across the border if that person does not have a valid US passport. (Shoot first and ask questions later.)" That conflicts with current laws which is why you have to have a more well thought out and more comprehensive answer or set of answers.

Here’s a couple easy onesies, remain in Mexico while their asylum case is pending and seek asylum in the first county you come to.

Asylum seekers are in many cases gaming the system simply trying to side step our immigration policy. What this administration has done is assist with that circumventing said immigration policy. I have friends who immigrated here from Mexico legally and they are beyond pissed that they spent the money and time and did it right only to watch millions pour across the border under the current situation.  

The flow of people unchecked into the US needs to stop NOW!!!

Trump REPAIRED or replaced ~400 miles of existing wall and added ~50 miles of new wall where barriers had not previously existed. Repair of existing wall was something that Border Patrol and many others agreed was a valuable investment. (Building a 2000 mile long wall according to Trump's original plan made no sense to anyone ... except Trump and his MAGA cult.)

SOURCE!! Are you talking about border crossings (which plummeted, especially due to COVID)? Are you talking about apprehensions? Are you talking about an actual "illegal immigration" statistic? I can't find those numbers. Please provide LINKS.  Unless I'm mistaken, APPREHENSIONS of illegal immigrants are UP under Biden ... due to improved detection and enforcement AT the border crossings.

The situation in Israel is not the same as that along the US borders. Israel is surrounded by neighbors whose goal is the annihilation of the State of Israel by violent and terroristic means. I can't find a statistic on the total amount of Israel wall. I think it is somewhere between 400 and 500 miles of total barrier. Some of the barrier is a tall, thick, concrete barrier. Some of the barrier is fencing or other construction. Much of their wall is fitted with high tech detection devices and even automatic (unmanned) weapons in some places, in particular those places where terrorists are known to try to cross into Israel with explosives and other WMDs.

And our border has been breached 20 million times. The solution is very very simple. Use the military as it was intended. Instead of wasting the military on dumb assery like Iraq, we instead use it to protect ourselves from a full fledged invasion from Mexico. We should bomb northern parts of Mexico, wipe everything out there, we should take out Mexico’s leadership for allowing it, we should bomb the cartels, there should be a non stop endless parade of bombs dropping on Mexico until they stop invading. The military, national guard, border patrol should all use live ammo to take out anyone who crosses. We should use drones to take them out if there’s any issues with getting enough people to cover the border. The same thing should happen to Guatemala. Blow it up, leave it in ruins. Mass deportations for all illegals to be completed within 90 days, after that shot on the spot. And this should have started happening 40 years ago.
