I know that subject line sounds like a joke, but it isn't.
Prop 69 (what a title) will require, among others, anybody convicted of any sex offense (not just felonies!) to submit a DNA sample. Presumably, this could affect certain individuals on this board in the future. *ahem*
I mean, come on. If we were to have a Prop. 69, it should require all Californians to engage in that activity at least once per year. This measure could drastically improve the quality of life in this state. (Although it might permanently put the GOP out of service...)
It's worse than that. Prop 69 will require a DNA sample of anyone ARRESTED -- not convicted -- on any felony charge. This is the guilty til proven innocent proposition. It has to lose.
In San Diego, three "cold" cases involving rape and murder were solved thanks to other states cataloging of DNA.
Traditionally, I oppose any bond or tax increase initiative, since I agree with Arnold, the state has a spending problem. California needs to learn to live within it's budget.
But because DNA collection HAS proven it's worth, I support this initiative. I liken this to fingerprinting.
