If Rita, now clocked at 175 mph, hits the petro refinery complexes between Texas and Louisiana we're looking at an economic wipeout. The media and govenrment spokespersons are being highly coy about this as the possibilities are too dire to contemplate. According to the statistical studies at the NOAA there's a 50% chance of a direct hit in the refinery zone that would blow out our gasoline and natural gas supply. Pump prices for standard unleaded could run anywhere from $3.50 to $6.00 gallon should this event transpire, and your heating bill will be astronomical...

You are 100% correct, except now Rita is at 212mph and a direct hit in the Port Arthur area would be devastating. Not only would it usher in a new age of $5.00 gasoline, but the supply shortages would ripple through our economy at all levels.

for stupid oil refineries that disregard the mandatory evacuation order and refuse to get out of the way. It's not like they haven't been warned.

So we can barely move people out of harm's way. Now we are supposed to evacuate buildings and other physical infrastructure. Bright. Next time a cop stop me for speeding I am going to use an excuse like "I tried to slow this damned car down but it would not listen". That should get me some sympathy and no ticket.
