I wonder how the 9/11 Families feel about these latest revelations indicating Bush & Rice ignored Al Qaeda threat:

But it is yet another piece of the puzzle revealed about why the Bush administration fought so hard against the commission in the first place, and why it positioned itself as it did during the hearings (Cheney and Bush in tandem private conversation with the commission), and most certainly why it fought successfully to have the findings withheld until AFTER the elections.
Give the GOP credit for having pulled the wool over America's eyes yet again. Our country needs another Frank Wills.

I think it is disingenuous of you to be so cynical towards "lefties" when one takes into account the BLATANT political manipulation by the GOP of the 911 tragedy. From images of firefighters carrying out survivors used in Bush for pResident commercials, to the crassly timed placement of the Republican Convention in New York, combined with the countless photo ops before, during, and after the convention, the commemorations, the political posturing and of course, the inevitable broken promises.

No sir, not this time. I respect you and your opinions, BK, and there is certainly major dysfunction within the Democratic Party. But this time, IMHO, your statement is out of line.

my cynacism[sic} about political opponents of Bush using the grief of these families to build themselves up at his expense.

EVERYBODY, and I mean EVERYBODY has run for cover. I have seen very little of what I call "coming to the table" by anyone about 9/11. Meanwhile they all want to handwring with "the families". To be honest with you, I think some of the family members need to take a breathe as well. Some of them are starting to sound like spoiled kids who always expect to get their way...

(Note: Self-edit here. I sometimes forget where I'm at. Sometimes I forget which site I'm posting to....)

On the other hand, if you wanna say the Pubs have used the families in exactly the same fashion, I'd not likely give you much push back on that. I mean, the whole 04' convention was 9/11. same thing I'm talking bout here. Listening to the Pubs convention I kept getting the feeling I was at a Lockheed Martin stockholders meeting...

The whole basis of the 2004 GOP platform was instilling fear into the minds of American people that terrorists will be attacking us non-stop if John Kerry was elected President; that the U.S. is safer and would be safer under the GOP regime, even though the worst terrorist attack in U.S. history occurred on their watch.  The RepubliCONs exploited 9/11 for political gain ever since it happened, and was the number one component for promoting their agenda.  In fact, they almost went to the extreme of glorifing it.  Your examples are prime evidence of that.

Terrorism wasn't a hotly debated issue before 9/11; it wasn't a part of the GOP platform when Shrub ran for President in 2000.  Now both parties exploit various issues for political purposes.  That's not to say terrorism shouldn't be a topic for debate, especially in the aftermath of 9/11.  However, it shouldn't have been used as the political tool Dumbya made it into.
