Do you think 4 hours of training is enough for a concealed carry permit?

Senate fails to pass the watered down version of the bill....

Now Obama and Senate Democrats are drafting together a bill that will ban use of pressure cookers. By extension, it will be illegal to sell or eat rice. Unless of course, you are of Asian descent.  :D

There was one provision that sounded very nice. It was located on page 22, line 7. Basically, it would exempt everyone from having to go through a background check if you already had a conceal carry permit.

Look at the bigger picture Lafftard.. All checks and rules are for law abiding citizens.

If you start banning one thing after another, there wouldn't be much left to be banned after few years. If someone wants to kill people, something innocuous as pressure cooker can be used.

But what I am against is passing another dead letter legislation. Out of thousands of people caught lying on federal forms less than 100 were prosecuted in 2012. So law enforcement is clearly the issue here, not the lack of the law.

Ga is trying to move in the opposite direction with a bill that would allow guns in churches, bars, and school safety zones.  I don't frequent those places, especially bars where I have a very low tolerance to belligerent drunks or baby-sitting an annoying drunk.

But doesn't it seem like a disaster waiting to happen, in a bar, where people are making poor decisions and judgement?

Give the sober bartender a gun or the bar owner, just sayin.

And why would anyone need a gun in church?  Makes about as much sense as the uniformed police following the ushers collecting tithes.

second amendment applies also to the right to make and possess bombs.  essential equipment for militia men.  and an expanded definition for 'pack and carry', backpack carrying a pressure cooker.

If you could prove you already had a weapon, easily proved by simply bringing one with you, you were not required to wait to pick up your purchase.

I have no idea if that law is still in effect, but it makes perfect sense, probably too much sense to remain in effect in these hysterical times where it comes to gun laws.

Drones, F-16’s, battle tanks, armored vehicles, attack helicopters Nukes and Nuclear powered submarines, and aircraft carriers are all included.

What if the our own military invades our homes? Don’t we need all those weapons to protect ourselves and our property.

I fail to see how expanding background checks for gun shows and internet sales - other private sales were still excluded - can in any way be characterized as a victory for "gun rights." The background checks simply provide a first screening out of persons who legally are not entitled to buy firearms. So the only "right" protected is the right of felons and incompetents to buy guns whereas otherwise they would be disqualified.

Gun shows are a huge problem. In Texas, there is a gun show almost every week. They even play the Star Spangled Banner and serve apple pie at the shows. They have rides for kids. It's sickening. What a failure of integrity by about six senators.

and can attack anyone I think is a "threat"?

 Think about that.

If Billy-Bob can shoot someone simply because he "thinks" he's a threat, then he can have a drone and blow up your house "before you blow up his" if the voices inside his head say, "He was a threat".
America is Billy-Bob......think about that.

Our elected officials today voted for what they thought would get them re-elected, not what is best for the country. It happens every day and is very common place. Are you really surprised that democratic senators from North Dakota, Alaska, Montana and Arkansas voted against it? I'm actually surprised they have elected democrats... I'd guess they are pretty middle of the road politically.
As far as gun shows go it might be easier to make the person who sold the gun privately, liable civilly than to pass nation wide gun reform. If they make it a felony to sell a firearm without a background check to a felon privately it would fix much of the problem. Now there is no recourse I believe.
Connecticut might lose a billion tax dollars and 4000+ jobs because firearms companies are looking at leaving the state after their gun reform, with Texas and a couple other states are offering a tax amnesty for any company moving there its not really a surprise.

A new bill introduced by a wacky Texas state senator seeks to reduce the training period from 10 hours to 4 to qualify for a Texas concealed carry permit.

Now look at Tex Senator Corman's amendment that would allow anyone with a CCP to carry his gun into another state that allows CCP. The people in Texas are absolutely insane when it comes to gun rights.
Favorite Texas bumper sticker with a gun logo-"we don't call 911"

No way anyone can learn in 4 hours how to use a gun safely and maintain it and then as to permissible pubic use. I bet I could give you three hypotheticals as to sudden encounters and ask you - could you lawfully use your gun in this encounter - and you could not get them all right.

So please don't tell me that a CCP should give anyone care blanch right to buy a gun without a proper background check.

to begin with and The Second Amendment has prevailed. However, it's not over yet. This is just one battle of many more to come. This was still too close for comfort and also means that another false flag is in the works as we speak.

Because in the state of Virginia, all you need to get a conceal carry permit is to pass a state approved test. These tests can be taken online and completed in 20 minutes. I had a concealed carry permit in my hand before I ever fired a gun.

Guess what? Nobody died.

1) There ARE background checks at gun shows.
2) There ARE background checks on internet sales.

It doesn't matter WHERE or HOW a gun is sold. The only thing that matters is whether it is a new gun or a used gun. A new gun gets a background check. If you sell a used gun in your state, person to person, then you don't have a background check.

No law could change this. What if we enacted a law that said you could only buy cars from car dealerships? That's not going to stop 2 people meeting in private, and exchanging a car for cash.

Felons don't generally buy guns online or at gun shows. Do you really think some thug from Chicago is going to go to a gun show at some Moose Lodge to buy Bill-Bob's old hunting rifle and use it to rob a convenience store? Trust me, gun shows are not a problem.

The Justice Dept. has found that over 211,000 guns are stolen every year. You could have all the background checks in the world, and you wouldn't be able to stop gun crimes from that statistic alone.

Have as many as you want but if you dont enforce them whats the point.
Burnham explained that according to case-by-case U.S. Justice Department information obtained under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests by TRAC, there were 52 prosecutions in Illinois North (Chicago) in 2012, or 5.52 per million in population. By this measure, compared with the 90 federal judicial districts in the U.S., the prosecution rate in Chicago was the lowest in the nation for federal firearms violations.

This is political too? The truth is most of the soft on gun crime zones are blue democratic states. I'm all for only locking up violent offenders and using drug treatment and forced labor for non-violent crimes for the most part.

but shouldn't they have the right to defend themselves if let's say some "thumper hater" like Daffy were to burst in guns blazing?

Bars are a different story. Guntoting drunk can't possibly be a good idea. even stoner Willy claims he locks up his guns when he ties one on.

and would you please tell your idiot friend Daffy that I never called you a crack head. I did tell you to "put the pipe down" but I never specified what was in the pipe.

BTW I know you made a couple of responses to my post, they were taken down before I got the chance to read them. Somehow I doubt that you were the one who resorted to "report a post" and I was curious as to what you had to say in response to my post.

So, I am not saying it is or is not. I prefer to wait for facts to come in and we can then judge if it is or isn't.

See the problem Timbow is that so many rush to judgement either way. Conspiracy theorists want to pin it as a false flag, and those who are really in the dark automatically believe what is spoon fed to them by the MSM and that is their gospel.

Some of us had been trained is the use of firearms at a young age. I shot my first pistol at about 11 or 12 years old. I don't need a safety course.

The permits are like the safe driving courses that one can take for insurance purposes. Mostly common sense with a couple of local laws thrown in.

You obviously are from the North and probably spent your entire life as a city dweller. I wouldn't expect you to understand Texans.
