Over a 1000 dead and more than 5000 wounded.  200 billion wasted so far and since over 100000 troops will need to stay in Iraq for the next 5 years many more billions will be wasted.
Truly horrific!!  Just absolutely fucking horrific!!

and supported them until the truth came out. I will always support our troops but it is a shame that they have been spread so thin and the current admin. has cut some military spending, and making those that want to get out when their time is up stay.
The only reason I believed them was because of Colin Powell. Was he duped also? I do not know.

It does not surprise me that Hassoun deserted.

Please be aware that the real casualty numbers are far more than are being stated. If a solider is driving a truck and has an accident the injury or death is not counted has part of the reported war dead...if a solider has a stroke or heart attack do to the heat that is also not counted has a casualty of the war and this also impacts the extent of benefits these veterans receive when they return to the world (USA)...but that’s another story.

Uh, usually they DO count.  The figure is usually "in theatre" casualties.  That's why numbers are so high for many wars where compbat was almost insignificant.  Flu deaths figure large in the WWI casualty rates.

But it may well be that if you crash a truck in Kuwait, you don't count but if you do in Iraq you do...

I hope our troops and leaders have more fortitude than those who post on this board.

And that makes everything alright because we will blindly follow everything Bush & admin says as gospel.

Comparing this to the Iraq war which was started because of bad intell. and further propelled by lies, is pure bullshit.

A preemptive strike vs. a war that was to keep the entire world free have no similarities whatsoever.

We really need to toughen up.  It is easy to sit back at a computer desk and write some venomous posts after arranging your next escort visit.  I just tried to give some HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVE to the 1000 number.  You need to lighten up, or you might just have a stroke.

perhaps you should concentrate on posting with your main alias instead of patting yourself on the back and falsely accusing others of taking things personally.

Darth Bush?  Is Cheney the Master Sith and Bush his apprentice?

And no, I do not consider that the 9/11 attack had anything to do with the Iraq war, other than it made the fraudulent selling of it to the American public an easier task for the Bush administration.

and, my goal in the next election is to elect a leader with more fortitude than the present one, who has the good sense to do the right thing by our troops, who also have more fortitude than the current one.

Dude-  in the Civil War I think we lost 8000 at cold Harbour in about 2 hours.

And your point was?

both those wars had a point and the country was put on a war footing to fight them. This war is a cluster fuck of large (but not apparently large enough) proportions.

It was not started to end slavery, but to keep the southern states in the union.  Only later was it 'morally elevated' to free slaves.  If the cotton states had stayed in the Union, Honest Old Abe would never have invaded the South.  My point is the "sky is falling" types portraying Iraq as some huge cluster fuck need to look back in history to see even larger ones.  The Spanish-American war was started on a lie by our part (we said Spain was responsible for an attack that they had no part in).  My point is not "ra ra, yeah Bush!".  My point is to get some healthy cynicism about when and why we go to war.  It is usually for such ignoble things as selfish interests, territorial or financial or otherwise.  And we lose a lot of soldiers when we do.  1000 is remarkably low for invading an entire country and establishing a completly new form of government.
