As our nation prepares to bury former President Ronald Reagan, Republican insiders fight among themselves over plans by George W. Bush's team to use images and speeches by Reagan in new television ads aimed at jump-starting G.W.'s faltering campaign. The ads, ordered up by Bush political advisor Karl Rove immediately after Reagan’s death last Saturday, use images of Reagan and excerpts from his speeches in what one angry GOP conservative describes as a "callous attempt to tie George W. Bush to the legacy of Ronald Wilson Reagan."

One proposed ad even goes so far as to show Reagan saying "George, go out and win one for the Gipper."  The clip comes from Reagan’s speech to the 1988 Republican National Convention where the former President’s request was to Bush’s father, George H.W. Bush, in his successful 1988 run for President.

-  "They’re disgusting," says one long-time Republican who participated in a focus group to preview the new television ads. "They dishonor the memory of Ronald Reagan and if President Bush allows these ads on the air I, for one, will not vote for him in November."
-  "Conservative Republicans are already unhappy with President Bush," the consultant said when questioned by Capitol Hill Blue. "It won’t take much to make them stay home on Election Day."
-  "I cannot believe our party would stoop to using Mr. Reagan’s memory for such political gain," says another Republican who has heard about, but not seen, the ads. "This goes way beyond any moral or ethical bounds."

As anger towards the proposed ad campaign builds, GOP leaders are urging the White House to scrap the campaign and destroy the ads before they become public. One longtime GOP consultant told Rove he was a "GODDAMNED IDIOT" for even considering putting the ads on the air.

National polls show Bush clearly in trouble with voters. A new Los Angeles Times poll shows the President trailing Kerry 51-44 percent with 60 percent of Americans saying the nation is on the wrong track.

"Many Republicans are already nervous about the extreme negativity that the Bush campaign has engaged in so early in this campaign," says one GOP strategist. "Never before has an incumbent President gone so negative so early against an opponent. Following that with a cynical use of a former President that so many Republicans revere is not just unwise. It’s just plain dumb and stupid."

Former First Lady Nancy Reagan has sent a message to the White House expressing her "extreme displeasure" at any attempt to use her late husband as a campaign tool in the Presidential campaign.  "That doesn’t surprise me," says a GOP operative who served in the Reagan White House. "Nancy doesn’t like President Bush. If he’s smart, he’ll tell Rove to burn the ads. George W. Bush doesn’t want Nancy Reagan as a public enemy."

Well, it could be worse. The ancient Incans mummified their chiefs, and would sort of keep them around the house. In times of war, they would mount and carry them into battle. I suppose these mummies played the same role that battle flags did in our Civil War.

At least we've moved beyond that.

If the GOP is planning doing that, then let the chips fall where they may, but the story itself stinks.  How about some specific names of the individuals forwarding the info, and if they wanted their names concealed, isn't the standard phrase "an anonymous source" within etc...  All I see is;

"Long time Republican"
"the Consultant"
"another Republican"
"one long-time Consultant"
"One GOP Stratigest"
"a GOP Operative"

Yes, I see that it was copied from an e-zine, but wouldn't even they want to at least sound legitimate?

When reports from unconfirmed sources in Iowa started popping up last January regarding "sacked" holsteins, this reporter started digging.  Unknown at the time, but this trend was happening whereever presidential candidate John Kerry was campaining.  According to an inside campaign offical inside Wes Clark's miserably failed campaign "we were shocked, but to tell you the truth, we were almost sure it was Howard Dean", this DFL oldschooler went on to say "when you make that much of an ass of yourself, you'd think you'd do something like that".  However, other DFL sources indicate it was happening around the Country.

According to a long time DFL consultant, a longtime DFL supporter and farmer East of Des Moine actually caught Kerry sprinting across the snowy field heading straight for Betsy, best of show winner @ the Hayseed Co. 4H Jamboree in 1987.  I yelled at him, "Ye dern fool, whatdya think yer doin".  Kerry, who was obviously in an dope induced state simply told the farmer afterword to forget what he saw and although difficult to explain, was for the betterment of the people.  "Well, for the betterment of the people I can understand, but when his bodygaurds came in a stole some towels, all the time denying that they were to clean up Kerry's splooge" that's when I knew our Boy was probably not just taking marijuana but had probably gotten into some of the "cracky" stuff they talk about on COPS.

A well known psychoanalyst on retainer with the Kerry campaign has told us that it really has nothing to do with Kerry's Post Traumatic Stress Disorder from his service in 'Nam, but more to do with the fact that his wife wears the pants in the family.  It's true, a long time friend and political strategist said.  "Think about it, he's had a government nipple in his mouth since he was 20, before that, a silver spoon up the ass"  Simply, "It's all about Ketchup."

According to a fellow midshipman who bunked with Kerry at Annapolis, his ketchup fetish really bothered the others at the Academy.  "We'd find him down in the kitchen in the middle of the night with a marker drawing a line thru Ketchup and writing CATSUP on all the bottles."

Obviously attempting to keep this from coming to light, PETA representatives traveling with the campaign have now admitted to paying farmers and concocting a story that he's testing a USDA program he's got in mind to test Bovine Reflex and Response to Stimulation.

A tenured Southern Democrat has come forward though stipulating that if he doesn't quit this behavior, Ted Kennedy will soon want to get a piece of the action and then all Hell will break loose, closing with "You know how that damned Kennedy is!"  A source close to Kennedy has told this reporter that Kennedy's response was simply, "Been there..Done that and if John Fucking Kerry had any balls, he'd throw the bitch in the car and look for the nearest bridge, he's a Navy boy, you'd think he'd know how to swim"

Although Kerry has denied knowing Ted Kennedy, he had no response regarding the Iowa Cow Incident.

You wouldn't want to have us post all the trouble Bush has been in for this would you ?  ;-)

RESUME
=======
George W. Bush
The White House, USA

LAW ENFORCEMENT PROBLEMS:
-------------------------
I was arrested in Kennebunkport, Maine, in 1976 for driving under the influence of alcohol. I pled guilty, paid a fine, and had my driver's license suspended for 30 days.
My Texas driving record has been "lost" and is not available.

I was previously only arrested two other times for destruction of university property, and theft of an 8 foot high wreath from the front of a hotel, but daddy got me out of those.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS AS PRESIDENT:
-----------------------------
I am the first President in U.S. history to enter office with a criminal record.

I have protected my friends at Enron and Halliburton against investigation or prosecution. More time and money was spent investigating the Monica Lewinsky affair than has been spent investigating one of the biggest corporate rip-offs in history.

I changed the U.S. policy to allow convicted criminals to be awarded government contracts.

I appointed more convicted criminals to administration than any President in U.S. history.

I've broken more international treaties than any President in U.S. history.

I am the first President in U.S. history to have the United Nations remove the U.S. from the Human Rights Commission.

I withdrew the U.S. from the World Court of Law.

I refused to allow inspectors access to U.S. "prisoners of war" detainees and thereby have refused to abide by the Geneva Convention.

I am the first President in U.S. history to order an unprovoked, pre-emptive attack and the military occupation of a sovereign nation. I did! so against the will of the United Nations, the majority of U.S. citizens, and the world community.

RECORDS AND REFERENCES:
-----------------------
All records of my tenure as governor of Texas are now in my father's library, sealed and unavailable for public view.

All records of SEC investigations into my insider trading and my bankrupt companies are sealed in secrecy and unavailable for public view.

All records or minutes from meetings that I, or my Vice-President, attended regarding public energy policy are sealed in secrecy and unavailable for public review.

PLEASE CONSIDER MY EXPERIENCE WHEN VOTING IN 2004.

that President Bush is my candidate.  I simply was noting that that the sources quoted were so completely vague it makes the story sound like bullshit.  Perhaps he is my candidate, perhaps not.  I do believe that I stated my position as if this is real, and they do it, let them reap either the benefits or the fallout from it.  Kind of a Freedom of Speech issue wouldn't you say???

or sarcastic about the posted "statements".  Please enlighten me.  Thanks

It was illustrating a point regarding the initial post by balonysandwich regarding Bush using Reagan's image.  Read through the thread and maybe you will catch it, maybe not.

OK, well here's a link from GW Bush's OWN site that shows a new video Ad (6/9/'04) with Reagan voice overs and images, I think it shows there WAS/IS some validity to the Post I made above. Maybe Bush is testing some of what they supposedly did from my link, and are trying to salvage some of it in this video Ad. Don't you think this MAY now be possible ? I wouldn't put it past Bush Co. to try and cash in and try to ride the coat tails of former President Reagan.

Also, as for the "anonymous source's", I suppose you want to know who "deep throat" was too don't you ?  LOL  If you can't understand why the sources would remain Un-named and/or non-specific, maybe try "Political Suicide" !

t y p i n g, s l o w e r  f o r  y o u, I simply have never, never, never, never, never...read a story with so many "anonymous" and/or "unnamed" sources where the reporter hasn't included that fact that it was an "anonymous" or "unnamed" source.  Mayber you are on the cutting edge of Journalism and you will begin a new trend.  And I'll repeat my other question and point.  Who said Bush was my candidate? Did I? Or is it simply my taking issue with a few posters who are clearly on the left and I will add looking a bit stupid to various degrees by how they plead their case.  I will say that if Bush does what you say he's planning, there will be a reaction.  It will be positive or negative.  Being you apparantly despise Bush (and probably any conservative or Republican) and have made your case that it is a bad move, what do you care?  It seems to me that you would be encouraging this or are you truly afraid of the "Reagan Bounce" putting your guy and Bush neck & neck again?

OK, after thinking about it for a minute, I can understand WHY it was done (not saying "anonymous" and/or "unnamed" source), it's because there were so many multiple sources cited in the article, SEVEN (7) from my count. To simply use "anonymous source" and/or "unnamed source" to refer to ALL seven of these people would be utterly confusing, and not keep clear which person was saying what.  Also the article does mention Carl Rove, George Harleigh, and Nancy Reagan by name, so it wasn't just some BULLSHIT made-up story like your post above about John Kerry {B+ for effort though, creative and easy to read, lol}.
And I have further backed up my case, and the Link, with a new link to GW Bush's Web Site, that I think shows the article had merit, and shows GW is trying to ride the coat tails of Reagan. I have an issue with it, because it gives a FALSE impression that GW Bush is some how someone he is NOT !

As to your other question/point, "Who said Bush was your candidate?", true enough was an assumption on my part, but it's easy to get pushed into a defensive mode and start making assumptions when posting to this board sometimes.

You did the same by saying I also apparently despise "any conservative or Republican" ;  when in Fact I, like many, voted for "Dutch" Reagan BOTH times, and admire current ones like Sen. John McCain, even if I don't agree with him on EVERY issue.

Can or will you have the balls to say the same of any liberal or Democrat, from your perspective(*) ?

* assuming you're a conservative Republican, I know shame on me, but CAN YOU ?

OK, Baloney, I'll bite on this one.  Here's the short list on pretty good DFL'ers: JFK (had some interesting policies and messages, study his tax efforts and how to get the money back to the people and also his famous "Ask not what your Country..." in other words, get off your ass and get productive.  TRUMAN (had the balls to drop the bomb) I believe it saved countless American lives because the Jap military would have called on the population to continue to fight to the death even after we breached nip shoreline with a Pacific "D-Day".  The History Channel has had some amazing specials on the shit the Japs had in development (German rockets/jets, atomic aspirations).  I'll even give Hubert Humphrey an honorable mention as I believe he thought through his ideals and stood by them.  Joe Lieberman is also a good man I think, just stuck in teh wrong party.  Kind of an independant, like McCain should be                                                                                                                                  The boner award gos to the following:  Ted Kennedy, for being a spoiled fucking Baffoon and in my opinion, a socialist, Ford for being simply unremarkable about anything other than pardoning Nixon and tripping on AF1, Paul Wellstone, Mondale (Geraldine Ferraro??WTF?), Carter (can you get a nicer guy, but what a dumbass, how could he let things get so out of control) Gore (no explanation needed), Yup, and I have to add Clinton because he desacrated the honor of the Office.  I can go on w/the pros & cons, maybe later, after the election when it get really boring in here.

OK, so he couldn't keep it in his pants, and that led to his lie and thus impeachment, but does that really counteract all the good he did ?

Budget Deficit - GONE, in fact 2.xx Billion SURPLUS in only 8 YEARS
Economy - Robust, claim it on dot.com if you want, but happened on his watch non the less.
World View of America - They loved us an wanted to be us, not counting every country in Mid East.

In part, so many have such a hate for GW & Republicans on this board due to how they were so desperate to desecrate Clinton.

Also, I'd watch the Jap / Nip name calling, you're sounding like bribite.

elite, attempting to procure hallowed ground in Arlington for one of his cronies (non-military) and on and on.....  I also firmly believe that the man has absolutely no character and wouldn't understand Honor if his life depended on it (certainly didn't when his political future depended on it).  Like the scene from Stephen King's "The Dead Zone" (Christopher Walken, Martin Sheen) when Sheen is on stage in a sniper's sites and he grabs a little girl to use as a shield, THAT IS BILL CLINTON!  I used to feel sick to my stomach when I would see a man in uniform forced by his own honor (and military regs) to salute him.
I know U Phuckers will come back with all kinds of comparisons about "the shrub", but do tell me what kind of response would you expect from the feminists, not to mention the EEOC if the current Republican President (top boss, w/absolute power) had an affair with an intern (a subordinate employee).  He wasn't impeached because of ILLEGAL and improper conduct with an employee, he was IMPEACHED because he lied about it.  Just like he lied about Jennifer Flowers, not inhaling, etc...  Go ahead and respond with Reagan lied about this or Bush I and/or II lied about that.  Clinton lied about petty, stupid things; things he should have just admitted to, taken the beating he deserved and moved on.  He lied to America, he lied to all those groups and individuals that saw him as their only hope, he lied to his wife and daughter. In hinesight, I'd bet he'd be the first to admit lying was a tragic mistake, it but if he had to do it again, I'll bet he'd lie again.  After all, he is a lawyer.
In the process, he fucked himself and history will judge him accordingly and it will always overshadow all of good things that he did.  For that, I despise him.  When I'm in my 70's and my great grandchildren ask questions about "the old days", I will have to explain Clinton.  I can explain Nixon (watergate), Reagan (Iran-Contra) and if history proves Bush II wrong, I can explain that too, but how will I explain to a 2nd grader what a blow-job is?  Stupid, petty stuff.  If I were sitting on the fence with the pending election, John Kerry would not get my vote because he didn't have the balls to say "I didn't throw my medals over the fence."  That's a whole 'nother post.

image, but not for t.v. or radio because it didn't have the necessary "I am George Bush and I approve of this ad" voiceover.
That's not saying he won't whore the Reagan image in future political ads for t.v. and radio.

Dumbya is really grasping for straws if he does resort to making a link between himself and Reagan.  RR isn't even cold in the ground, and Shrub wants to use him to advance his re-election campaign?  Talk about tasteless.  But then, this is the same Dumbya who said he wouldn't use images of 9/11/2001 in his re-election bid, either.  He already has done so in at least 2 TV ads I've seen.

"I'm George Dumbya Shrub, and I'm so full of shit, my eyes are brown."

On a personal level, I've been subjected to Shrub's tasteless tactics myself.

Earlier this year, I signed a petition on Democrats.org.  They were to forward all the signed petitions to Dumbya.  As part of the petition signing process, I needed to include my home address.  I later received an e-mail from the White House saying Shrub couldn't personally answer my e-mail, but appreciated my "concern" and would look into it.  I thought, "Sure, you will".  This e-mail did let me know my petition signing was at least received, though.

A couple of weeks later, I received via snail mail a form letter from Marc Racicot, a  Shrub campaign chairman, wanting me to become a charter member of the Dumbya-Cheney '04 team in Missouri!!!  I also received a "personalized" photo of Mr. & Mrs. Shrub as well as a request for a campaign contribution.  They used my petition signing as a means of soliciting his campaign.  It also proved the petition either wasn't read, or at a minimum, not taken seriously.

Here I was, trying to address issues of concern, and instead of addressing those issues, Dumbya was addressing envelopes!!!

Come January, 2005, Shrub will be addressing his envelopes back in Texas.

moveon.org or the afl-cio churning out messages even though the new McCain-Feingold laws are restricting the use of soft money in the election process.  I get daily briefs from moveon.org and I remember the ad they were considering that had footage of Hitler being transposed with Bush.  Is this any less revolting, I think not.  Freedom of Speech Baby.  I have never heard of clubforgrowth.com, the AD SPONSER AND CONTRIBUTOR and it might be possible that the RNC has little control over what they do.  Just my .02 and my reminder that if these run, it might backfire and I couldn't think that anything would make the left any happier.  I will now admit that I, yes, am a Republican.  I know, big surprise right?  Anyhow, I thank Christ that the left couldn't come up w/anybody better than Kerry, otherwise Bush wouldn't have a chance.  Just like Nixon was handed a shit sandwich from LBJ (southeast Asia), your boy if elected, might fuck this up more exponentially than it already is.  Will he stay the course, or will he allow congress to manage the war or will he pull out? Choice 1 is horrid and the other two just get worse.  Will he put our soldiers under UN Command?  Who knows?

it's a way BOTH political parties have skirted around the McCain-Feingold campaign finance reform laws, and quite frankly it sucks. Just thinking about the Money (millions and millions) that politicians spend on campaigns makes me sick, yet we see some Americans living out of shopping carts on the streets.
Not to mention all the waste that gets created from their junk mail flyers, wasting precious resources (trees) and creating Hugh amounts of waste (it all goes in the trash pile anyways) they really should be ashamed. I realize its a part of the game, but it's wrong.

Secondly, oh make No bones about it, I hope G.W. Bush tries this, looks like he is, and if he does I'm sure he'll shoot himself in the foot with it.

Lastly, J.F. Kerry, well you might be right (JFK is also no JFK), HOWEVER I refuse to let G.W. Bush have another FOUR years to fuck things up anymore than he has if I can help it.
