Temporary ban on ALL discussion about Israel and Palestine.

You all are great. I really like reading your posts. 99.9% of the posts here good debates with a few trolling posts thrown in for spice. Most of the time there are no personal attacks on participants but rather attacks on politicans, pundits, and public people. (Alliteration intended.)

The endless back and forth, diatribes, personal insults, and generation of heat which produces no cooked food for the mind and soul has forced me to enact the first topic ban for the Politics Board.

Until further notice, or Peace in the Middle East has been achieved, (whichever comes first), discussions of Israel and Palestine are no longer allowed.

First offense: Poster becomes moderated. (Note: TER technology does NOT allow moderation of a user on just one board. If you are moderated here, you end up moderated on ALL boards.)

There will not be any second offenses.

Thanks for your understanding.

Do Not Feed the Trolls!

I assume you mean the conflict between Israel and Palestine, if you meant Israel and Palestine conclusively there might be anything to discuss left.

Has the rancor been this bad?

That topic leads to a lot of name calling as well! Why not ban the users who keep posting in violation of the rules (Please do not post messages that are simply mean, or meant to cause trouble for trouble's sake.), and let the others (if any are left) continue to discuss it as adults?

Thanks,

kc

I understand why a certain reactionary response would be banned as being counterproductive to discussion, not to mention the gratuitous trolling evident in some posts, but I had thought that I was attempting to generate reasoned dialogue with my response to one of them.
To your point, I have noticed that any discussion of the situation engenders more vitriol than just about any other topic. Pity - it seems that points to why the situation is so difficult to resolve.

Please understand Puck, this is NOT in any way a response to any one person. We have had previous discussions about the same subject that caused a great deal of grief. I just don't want that to happen again.

It's similar to abortion debate. People have staked out their turf and any kind of eal discussion is generally viewed as a personal transgression.

Maybe after the heat of summer is over, and guys have gone back to doing more hobbying I will remove the ban.  :) It certainly makes ME more agreeable!

Thanks,

TMT

I understand the rationale, just verbalizing my musings.

Peace out.

reasoned arguments. And you are right that virtually 100% of the people that post regularly have staked out their positions and no amount of facts or reasoning will change their positions. And you have surely noticed that some of the most cowardly and egregious attacks come from people posting under a second Alias (or usernames being the first).
But I am somewhat unsure of the wisdom of screening out posts about the Isreali and Palestinian conflict. Everyone in the western world has a stake in that conflict, whether they acknowledge it or not. To limit discussion of it would be creating a situation where the viewpoints about the conflict from members of this board can not come out. The restriction may be healthy for the board in the long term, but the jury is out, IMO. Personally, I would rather deal with the occasional post that is made with no purpose other than to insult or incite than not have any discussion at all on an important topic.

Not to be impatient but is the embargo going to end anytime soon?
