Just how messed up is the Dem party right now?  

It is a somewhat predictable cycle of losing elections.  The more radical elements tend to argue they weren't radical enough.  This causes a downward spiral of electability.  Unless the market crashes to a recession in the next two years, look for the Dem radicals to lose more seats in congress by misjudging the need for greater ideological purity.
