TL;DR . . . "Supreme Court justices seemed deeply skeptical about the legality of aggressive tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump against most of the world’s nations." . "Conservative and liberal justices sharply questioned Solicitor General D. John Sauer on the Trump administration’s legal justification of the tariffs, which critics say infringes on the power of Congress to tax." . "Lower federal courts have ruled that Trump lacked the legal authority he cited under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act to impose the so-called reciprocal tariffs on imports from many U.S. trading partners, and fentanyl tariffs on products from Canada, China and Mexico." . http://www.cnbc.com/2025/11/05/supreme-court-trump-trade-tarrifs-vos.html . DJIA and NASDAQ up 300 points each.
As an option if the courts rule against Trump. If this happens I can see a shit show from the importers to retailers and then to the consumer, curious to see how this will play out. But this has the makings to get ugly as who will claim thier own “refund” Stay tuned…
Like Parliament, we have a bicameral legislature. Like Parliament, our legislature has the exclusive power to tax. Unlike England, we have a president, not a king.
Almost 400 years ago, King Charles I tried to raise taxes by himself without the consent of Parliament. Charles believed in "the divine right of kings," i.e., only God could tell him what to do. Long story short - Charles was tried for treason and they cut his motherfucking head off. That was the last time a monarch of England tried to raise taxes without Parliament.
Trump also thinks he can do whatever the fuck he wants. Our Congress should take a lesson from England's history.
