And vague references to agreements on some points and not on others. But no specifics. Will something come of it? Perhaps. But there's simply no way to know. No questions were taken Now reporters will work their sources to get whatever additional info can be gleaned. But it's hard not to conclude that progress was minimal.
Before the meeting, Trump hyped that if he didn't get a cease fire from Putin, he would be greatly disappointed and would ramp up sanctions against Russia. Well, neither thing happened, and it was quite unusual for Trump not to take a least a couple of questions from the press pool. Well, so much for ending the war within 24 hours of being elected.
But he can't cite any actual progress. It certainly was a win for Putin, heretofore an isolated international war criminal who got longed-for recognition but seems to have given nothing in return. Not to mention that on the same day Putin unleashed another missile barrage on Ukraine. What would you expect from the worst deal-maker on the planet?
Trump had agreed with Zelensky and the Europeans that a cease fire should come first, THEN negotiations for an overall peace. In other words, stop the killing ASAP. Then Putin conned him into adopting the Russian plan: keep on killing while talking about an overall peace plan. Why? Because Putin wants to keep on fighting, killing Ukrainians and grabbing land. Now watch Russian stooges like Wanker -- who til now had been sobbing about all the killing -- rush in to support the Russian plan. Oh, well, it could have been worse. Trump could have adopted Putin's entire scheme, which is to take over all of Ukraine. Trump = Most Feckless Negotiator Ever.
President Trump's first face-to-face meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in years was punctuated by an overt display of military muscle.
The big picture: The Alaskan rendezvous, closely choreographed, included a B-2 stealth bomber flyover and a red carpet crowded by F-22 fighter jets. Both men paused to look at the aircraft overhead before climbing onto the stage at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson. Between the lines: The Lockheed Martin-made F-22 Raptor and the Northrop Grumman-made B-2 Spirit are among America's most precious — and pricey — weapons.
The U.S. in June used seven B-2s to strike Iran, a country propping up the Russian war machine in Ukraine. Zoom out: The dialogue between nuclear powers arrives more than three years into fighting in Eastern Europe.
Trump has said he wants a ceasefire. Putin has not been so eager.
One of Trump's many dipshits left behind sensitive documents about the Anchorage summit on a hotel copy machine -- including: names and numbers of U.S. and Russian state leaders, schedule and room locations.
Yet another major national security breach. You can't make this stuff up.
Would you believe it was a carefully orchestrated diversionary tactic deployed by topmost US National Security leaders?
