Sad State of News today

According to an article published by the Huffington Post, voters learned more about campaign financing through "The Colbert Report" than through actual news outlets.  Secondarily, Daily Show viewers are more informed than Fox.  But then again, isn't everyone more informed than a Fox viewer?

I'm pretty disgusted with the state of the "Mainstream Media, and yes this includes Fox", in that major stories are not really explained adequately, they allow news to be defined in political terms, and they rarely challenge assertions made by their guests.  I've been finding looking at more alternative sites to include BBC, Al-Jazerra, and Internet Sites to get a more well rounded view of the news and issues of the day.

People are only as good as their source of news.

I don't share your warped world view.

Jon Stewart, He used to be the uncontested number one in the fake news department, with only some weak challengers in the name of Fox and MSNBC, Now Colbert is challenging him for top billing. A travesty I say. lol

Now if this is where you expect me to start defending Fox news, sorry to disappoint. The highest praise I can muster for Fox is that they aren't quite as bad as MSNBC. Fox for all their efforts to distort the news with their right wing spin still can't compete with MSNBC in that department.

I will have to admit, that although I rarely choose to watch CNN, at least not for well over a decade, I have watched a bit more of them lately while overseas and/or stuck in airports, and I have noticed a big improvement on their objectivity. Not that I consider them truly objective by any definition of the word, only that they are "better"

... and I'm not too sure, but I think Stewart makes a few bucks off Colbert's current CC deal.

I doubt if Stewart would be upset by this revelation.

I am pretty sure that what's good for Colbert is also good for Stewart. I was just having a bit of fun with the thread.

I guess it really is no laughing matter that our populace is so lazy that they get their news from fake news shows, and I guess it's even worse that the fake news shows are just as informative and possibly less biased than the "real" news.

and no I did not not that Colbert was moving to CBS, I really don't watch him that often, his act gets old rather quickly IMO. I much prefer Stewart, even if I am a "right wing nut job" to hear people like BigCryBaby tell it.

I thought it got old, when he was still a "corespondent" on Stewart's show. Proof of how dumb the American populace really is.

I would have liked to see Colbert, land a gig on Fox.

as he is a huge lefty simply playing a caricature of a rabid righty.

but I will agree about how dumb the American populace really is. When millions of people hang on the words of either Al Sharpton on MSNBC or Sean Hanity on Fox, it's a pretty sad state of affairs.

Why? they think they are real news.

... it's usually never a good thing to hang on any person's last words. The ones you mentioned are up there on the list.

He's going to be David Letterman's replacement.

No wonder your GAGGER shit head extraordinaire!

Discussing Fox news, on this board should be ban

what someone did or didn't do without adding their reasoning. That omission, over time, leaves one with, consciously or unconsciously, a belief that people make decisions based on impulse vs. any reasoning. Most people have a good reason for why they believe what they believe, though they may not have the best data to back it up, or the data does not clearly back up one belief or the other. A good example is gun control. Those for it state they believe they will be safer with more controls. The gun owners believe they will be safer with fewer gun controls. There's data to back both sides, though not enough data to give a clear solid edge for one side or the other. But, my main point is that each side has their reasons and data they point to, which usually doesn't get reported. It ends with whether a person; particularly a politician, supports or does not support gun control.

So, we'll hear stories that start out like, Obama did this, or Congress did that, or the Republicans did this, or the Democrats did that. The right wants this, or the left wants that, but it pretty much ends there. There's very little, if anything said or written about why they want it, or their reasoning. You have to go to other sources for that.
