The Civil War was the deadliest war in US history. 620,000 white men gave up their lives so that black people could be free. I’m sure they appreciate that sacrifice. The war was so deadly it cost the US 2% of it’s entire population. Men starving on the battlefield. Limbs getting amputated to treat war wounds. School houses converted to hospitals. Thousands of dead left on the battlefield in unmarked graves. Men who never got to see their families again. It’s so nice that black people appreciate this great sacrifice.  

 
Imagine of half a million Koreans gave up their lives to free Somalians. Or a half a million Italians giving up their lives to free Indonesians. Or a half a million Russians giving up their lives to free the Irish. I don’t think anything like that has ever happened. I’m sure glad blacks appreciate this great sacrifice.  

 
After the Civil War we did in fact create a holiday. It was said all the grieving mothers who had lost their sons in the war should get a holiday. We ended up calling it Mother’s Day. Forgotten is the reason for this, we instead give old women flowers to help them celebrate their own narcissism, forgetting that the holiday is really about the sheer brutality of 620,000 men who died on a battlefield. The humanity of men is always given the least thought, the last consideration, and the last care in the world. But this year, I will remember the sacrifice of some of the greatest Americans who ever lived who gave up their lives to preserve our Union.

1) Memorial Day was originally created to honor Civil War dead. It was later expanded to included the dead of all US wars.
2) Blacks DID fight for their own freedom in the Civil War. More than 200,000 blacks served in the Union Army and Navy and nearly 70,000 died. Wanker might want to watch the movie "Glory" that memorializes one of the most famous regiments, the 54th Massachusetts.

Show the class where Wanker mentioned (or even just implied) that Blacks served in the Civil War. He did neither. His clear implication was that Blacks benefited from the War and simply stood by waiting to be emancipated. By supporting him YOU are the one deflecting. Which makes you almost as big a racist as Wanker.

That said, Wanker is totally deluded when he says "a few blacks fought." In fact it was more than 200,000 which is TEN PERCENT of the Union's soldiers. Blacks comprised 16% of the pre-war US population but many of them were still held as slaves in the Southern states and had no opportunity to serve.
