President Donald Trump winkingly referred to the Strait of Hormuz as the “Strait of Trump.”
Iran has to “open up the Strait of Trump — I mean, Hormuz,” the president said in a speech at the Future Investment Initiative in Miami, Florida, garnering laughs from the crowd.
Is this another case case of liberals taking Trump literally?

Really? A joke, huh. That's always your "go to" explanation when all else fails to explain something dumb that president Stupid has said. We don't need a comedian in the White House we need a serious, steady leader. Instead, we have a clown.

Trump putting his name on the Kennedy Center, The Donald J. Trump Institute of Peace (LMAO!) and his face on passports. But, yeah, we're naive to assume the Strait Of Trump is actually a joke.
The joke really is Donald J. Trump himself. And his slavish supporters like ChicKie and Felcher.

I don't know what you hope to accomplish by bringing out a 10-year-old opinion piece that is hidden behind a paywall. The only joke here is trump and the 33% of supporters who still support this joker. Of course, it's never a HAHA joke it's always a OH NO joke. Fortunately, the independent voters who put him in office have seen their mistake and are ready for new leadership as this joker ruins not only our country but the world.

Fox News, while they don't say it on CNN, so it makes CNN look like they are behind the times on breaking news.  Another trap Trump set for fake news and they took the bait.   One of the local radio stations in SoCal is sponsoring a Gulf of America luxury cruise this summer.  (Yes, there are still accommodations left if you want to go.  Democrats are trying their own trip where participants will go on safari in the wilds of Somalia.  The sponsors came into some money, allegedly from Minnesota, so they are offering discounts to American taxpayers.

Question for you...... Does the Gulf touch "America's"....    You know central.   It touches more than 1 country.

We have North American countries and Central (Cuba and other islands).

People think calling it the "GULF OF AMERICA".... is just for the USA.   NOPE.   What are the 3 land masses called in our hemisphere..... North American and South America.... with "central" in between.

BTW..... I still call it gulf of mexico.    It isn't a big deal to me.   But geography says it could be called what it has been changed too by Trump.

The most penny anti and petty things….AGAIN
You and your ne’er do well partisan leftist hacks take a remark and blow it out of proportion and out of context.

The rabid leftists hacks are the only ones who do not recognize it as a joke and are disingenuously trying to make it sound otherwise.

AI Overview
Donald Trump has jokingly suggested renaming the Strait of Hormuz to the "Strait of Trump" or "Strait of America" while discussing negotiations with Iran, a remark that drew laughter but was not an official policy proposal. The comment, made during speeches and on social media, reflects his characteristic blending of humor with branding-focused political rhetoric regarding control of the vital oil route.
Key details:
• Context: The comment was made in the context of discussions regarding U.S.-Iran negotiations and maritime security in the region.
• Origin: The idea was mentioned as a joke during a speech and subsequently discussed as a potential move if the U.S. secures control of the waterway.
• Reaction: While some supporters on social media engaged with the idea, others viewed it as a characteristic joke or a "Trump-style" rhetorical flourish, according to reports from the Jerusalem Post and various social media posts.
• Legal Reality: Experts note that unilateral renaming of international waterways is not possible under international law, making it a symbolic gesture rather than a formal, legal change.
The proposal was reported as a lighthearted remark rather than a serious diplomatic or territorial initiative.

AI Overview
President Donald Trump first teased renaming the Strait of Hormuz to the "Strait of Trump" during a speech on March 27, 2026, in Miami, later amplifying this by sharing a map with the new label on Truth Social on April 30, 2026. He frequently used the term to assert dominance during the ongoing 2026 Iran conflict, mocking media reactions while calling it a "terrible mistake" in a sarcastic manner.
• Initial Mention (March 27, 2026): Speaking at the Future Investment Initiative in Miami, Trump said, "They have to open up the Strait of Trump—I mean Hormuz".
• Social Media Amplification (April 30, 2026): Trump shared a map on Truth Social displaying the waterway as the "Strait of Trump," amidst a naval blockade.
• Context: The comments occurred as part of a campaign to pressure Iran regarding a key oil-shipping route.

According to AI Overview, it's been called the Gulf of Mexico since around 1550.
"The Gulf of Mexico began appearing with its current name on European maps around 1550, with recorded usage in documents emerging in the 1540s to 1550s. While earlier Spanish explorers often labeled it "Sea of the North" (Mar del Norte) or "Gulf of New Spain," the association with the Mexica (Aztec) civilization resulted in its enduring name.1541: One of the earliest associations, Seno de Mejicano ("Mexican Sound" or Gulf), was used.1550: The name "Gulf of Mexico" (Spanish: golfo de México) first appeared on a, or perhaps the, world map.1552: It appeared in a historical account.16th/17th Century: It was interchangeably known as Seno Mexicano, Golfo de Nueva España, or Gulf of Cortés before "Gulf of Mexico" became standard by the mid-1600s."

Furthermore, very few people call it the Gulf of Mexico.  Most Floridians simply refer to it as "the Gulf."
"Down here, we just refer to it as the Gulf," Susanna Pope, 44, said. "It's like saying you're going into town.  You don't have to say Key West.  You just say town."

Nicky specifically asked for knowledge of ONE person (who wasn’t a red neck, thank you) who called that body of water the Gulf of America.

Get real. Do you honestly know anyone who calls it the "Gulf of America?"
The honest answer is "NONE."
I provided an example of one, just as Nicky requested.

So where’s the “shit” BigPapaFlop speaks of? It’s not there. He once again misreads context and goes of on an unsupported tangent. This time looking to Key West. If BigPapaDunce knew anything about Florida, he would know that Key West and the “Floribama Shore” are virtually at opposite ends of the cultural pole.

Thanks for the history lesson.      But again.... GEOGRAPHICALLY...... AMERICAS.    It is touching two "America's".... correct?   It is touching more than just "MEXICO"... correct.    So to be "inclusive" wouldn't America's be more politically correct?

BTW.... is it now bad to change the name of things?    How many army bases, streets, etc. have gotten names changed.

inicky46 61 Reviews 35 reads

What does "GEOGRAHICALLY" have to do with it? ZERO. What we have here should be simple enough for even YOU to understand it:
It's been called the Gulf of Mexico for more than 500 years.
Only ONE person wants to change the name. Virtually everyone will continue to call it the Gulf of Mexico.
So, as with so many stupid things Trump has done, everyone will ignore it.
And you will continue to mindlessly defend it.

Geographiclly means that the Gulf touches more than just MEXICO.    It touches other countries that belong to North America and "Central" america.     So calling it the "GULF OF AMERICA" isn't far-fetched since it is touching other countries that are apart of THE AMERICAS.

Your post...is typical LIBERAL trying to be "smarter" than others.   Yet can't refute my example of it touching other countries.

History has it that names change for things.   Be it streets, countries, bases, cities, towns, mountains, etc.     So changing the name of the GULF isn't out of pocket.

I am bringing a logical and geographical information on to why a "name change" isn't a bad thing.    You know be INCLUSIVE to the other countries that touch the gulf.
