Because its in the gulf of MEXICO. now that it's in the Gulf Of America well god dam, that makes it better..

Only ONE person wants to change the name. Virtually everyone will continue to call it the Gulf of Mexico.

Geographiclly means that the Gulf touches more than just MEXICO.    It touches other countries that belong to North America and "Central" america.     So calling it the "GULF OF AMERICA" isn't far-fetched since it is touching other countries that are apart of THE AMERICAS.
