We should get rid of all laws, so people can be free to make their own decisions.

Didn't see the thread plus I didn't want this to get buried so I'm starting this anew.

Someone said one of their Righty buddies said we should ban drugs because of the "cost to society" when people get addicted and thought everyone would start shooting heroin if it became legal.

That argument was completely shot down with "What about the costs of booze and cigarettes to society?  Lots of people killed by drunk drivers.  Lots of cops employed to break up fights by drunk idiots.  Lots of cancer by smoke and second-hand smoke....plus heart disease."

If it's "all about costs to society", cigs and booze should be banned too.

Plus, with pot being outlawed, that incurs it's own costs:  all the cops and judges and prisons to lock up the tokers.  We're talking billions upon billions.

And then there are the indirect costs:  How many kids grow up with out a dad because he was put away for 10 years for having a few joints?

Righties always bleat about "Kids NEED a mom and a dad."  Well, quit locking up dad because he got high off pot.  And if "being high" is bad, outlaw booze because there are TONS more families ripped apart by booze than pot.

It's not only "loser hippies" that get high.  I know engineers, lawyers, CPA's.....you name it, that get stoned and they don't miss work.

Also, ask your buddy if he agrees with Bloomberg banning large soft drinks.

If anything is going to bankrupt this country, it's the diabetes epidemic.  This country is becoming obese beyond belief.....and pop is one of the biggest reasons why.

And yet, ANY time someone mentions going after pop or fast food, Righties go NUTS over "Socialism."

Your buddy is extremely hypocritical..........like most Righties.

Speaking of which, I just watched a clip of Jon Stewart making fun of Glen Beck with his "Freedom Town."

Glenn says he wants a place where there is FREEDOM and people can "pursue happiness."

He then starts saying what type of businesses aren't allowed, like Gap.

LOL!!!

And who wants to bet pot and gay marriage aren't allowed in Freedom Town because Glenn, like most Righties, only believes in "pursuit of happiness" for things HE likes.

 Are they serious ?
Did Bloomberg outlaw the  purchase of  two medium drinks by one person ?  They could ban all fast food fries and establishments , fat fanatics will find  their cellulite and diabetes food somewhere else .

Now my judgement may be a little clouded because I smoked pot yesterday, plus it's cloudy and humid today.

Just pointed out the hypocrisy of "We need to ban drugs because of the cost to society" while saying all those other things should be legal and they cost us a LOT more.
