"Compassionate Conservatives" and funerals

I hope people realize that President Bush attending Reagan's funeral is one more funeral that he has attended than all of the funerals of our Fallen Heroes that he has participated in.  We are proud to show Reagan's coffin draped in our great flag, yet the general public is not allowed to see the flag draped coffins of our heroes coming home to America.

The first refute of this post is that "Bush can't attend all of the military's fallen heroes; he can't pick and choose which to attend and which not to attend."  Agreed.  But if I was truly a compassionate leader, I would attend one randomly picked funeral of each branch of our services that have suffered a death of one of its brothers.

Hunglow, you propose more symbolism over substance.  We just went through eight years of that bullshit.  You probably would pick random service funerals.  But what if the random picks came back to all white male soldiers, would you repick until you found the correct ethnic ratio? then try to select an equal number of males/females?  President Clinton would have not passed such a photo opp as attending the first female combat fatality, but would her loss be any more significant than that of another soldier?  If Al Gore was in this position, and don't insult us saying that he couldn't possibly get here, (remember Gen. Aristide?  Black Hawk Down?  Army Rangers being dragged through the streets of Mogadishu(sp?))  you would be attacking him like this?  I don't know what state you live in, and don't care, but if you haven't figured out how to view a fallen soldiers' funeral yet, then your head is squarely up your ass.  No, the military isn't allowing the general press into Dover AFB, nor should they.  It's a military Base and we're at war.  Far too many of the general public have had the unfortunate opportunity to witness these heroes returning from oversees.  I live in the midwest in a rural area and we have had two soldiers killed in nearby towns.  I went to one and I didn't see CNN there, but the local news carried some coverage without attaching a politcal statemnet to it.  Instead of asking why the press isn't allowed to show the dead being flown into Dover, why don't you ask why haven't we seen any footage of 9/11 since the war began?  Is it because it may cause rage against terrorism?  Does the media want to keep us from getting to worked up and turn into a bunch of out-of-control warmongers?  Did Ted Koppel not get enough mileage out of devoting an entire hour showing the faces of the fallen soldiers?  Pulleeeeze

One parties photo op is another party's showing respect for a fallen heroe.  And thanks for reminding all of us that Clinton attended at least one more funeral than Bush!

By the way, are your local channels owned by Sinclair Broadcasting, as fair and balanced a source as "Faux News"

I agree that the fallen soldiers should have their privacy.

I especially agree with the notion that we don't need ``a bunch of out-of-control warmongers'' running around in the streets.  We already have a big White house full of them.  And please don't insult our intelligence by saying that this is a War on Terror - Or my favorite, that we are liberating the people of Iraq.  ``Operation Iraqi Freedom'' pulleeeeze.

BTW, your randomization scenario would only occur if Bush was drawing #'s out of his fighter pilot hat (idiot would even screw that up).
