Taxes can be raised on this elite group without the deleterius consequences of raising taxes on those with lesser though still substantial income, such as the $250,000 to $500,000 class.
Lefties who lump the super rich with the guys who make $250,000 will get derailed by the absence of the same rationale for the increase.
