How much oil and coal do we have left.. Some speculators say 35 years and some say 50 so lets double the 50 and say 100..however  at the rate the World is buying cars it will probably be a lot less than a 100..Once the oil runs out then the coal, and it won't take long until the wood is burned for heat..Some say it is a issue because of the radioactive waste and the possibility of a radiation leak..Freezing to death is not a happy prospect either and with no heat many will freeze to death..  If Nukes are good enough for France isn't that good enough for you??   http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/reaction/readings/french.html

ain't life swell... I mean here we have all this brain power on TER - a relatively small slice of the population (not even a good statistical sample) and we are at each others throats over this...  what I want are clear presentations of fact, will all available facts presented.... I have read that the warming on mars, pluto and other planets is NOT due to the suns activity.... but am left with no other explanation.... why is that!?  

I am also in a quandary, because when I look at the numbers, simply ceasing the buring of fossel fuels will not decrease the rate of CO2 emissions enough to make a difference in the CO2 out put... why?  Because people will resort to burning other C based fuels....  like trees.

Let us better harness wind and solar energy. There is no problem then with disposing of spent nuclear material or the possibility of a "melt down".

If we can refine solar energy panels and the ancillary hardware there would be no need to be making a large payment to a corporate or government energy supplier every month.  

Think of it; an efficient, practical, all electric powered automobile to get around with that is recharged by the same solar energy system that abundantly heats, cools and electrifies our homes.

Ooops! Silly me! I forgot; Exxon Moble, Haliburton etc would make sure that Congress outlawed such an independent lifestyle, or its development.  

There is a growing debate over the use of Solar panels..Since the 70s solar panels have become much less expensive and cost effective and millions of panels are now in use acros the World..Some scientists think there is a direct link between the high heat entrapment of the solar panels and the Global warming we are now experiencing.

Unfortunately for the free market, it is estimated now that there's a 50 percent chance of bankruptcy for companies that build nuclear reactors. Maybe it's over regulation, but dying of nuclear poisoning is not a pleasant experience. Maybe it's because of lawsuits, but I've noticed environmentalists are less panicked by nuclear power now.

Thing is, for that radioactive waste, can't we build something like a solar cell, but designed to gather energy from that form of radiation? That's what a solar cell does, but it does it in the visible spectrum. There must be a way to reuse it that doesn't involve a lot of handling.

Though I think global warming isn't just a matter of "bad weather."

If you think about it, solar panels compete with plants for sunlight. I could see them crowding out forests, rain forests, grasslands and wetlands.

But of course, that's a problem to be solved later. No problem is solved hundreds of years ahead of time.

They already exist. They are used in various forms in deep space vehicles. I think the most common use the simple thermocouple effect of two junctions of two dissimilar metals. The temperature differential across the two separated junctions causes electron flow.

Some early heart pacemakers utilized this technology to lengthen battery life.
