I recall many years ago how the US built high powered transmitters beaming Europe with news. The concept was that communist countries did not have "honest" news reports and therefore it was deemed necessary to get the "truth" to them. Feeling was that governments were telling lies to their people, news outlets were controlled by government, and thus we had a moral obligation to get the truth out there.
Now fast forward to the US of today. Is there any news outlet that doesn't lie? Lies come in a variety of ways such as outright false statements, failing to report events not favorable to a news outlet's point of view, etc... IMHO, the US has become the most lied to population on the planet. And our population is therefore the most uninformed and misled. I think the destruction of our democracy is well underway courtesy of the news media.

making cars in several foreign countries at smaller plants and moving the entire manufcaturing process to a country. Many car manufacturers assemble part or all of their cars FOR A PARTICULAT COUNTRY there to avoid a considerable cost of transporting them by train.
And some Americanmanufacturers have plants off shore that do make most of a particular brand of car they make (less of them than the above situation). Ford makes their hybrid Fusions and the Mercury MZK for example at a $1.3 billion large plant in Hermosillo, Mexico.
The other point is that in addition to a new immigration law, and revising the tax structure all of Obama's supporters will push for a law that mandates 1) your home must be immediately painted
Hurricaine Obama black with Michelle shocking pink trim within 30 days or it will be torched to the ground. 2) You will not be seen outside your home without wearing total Hurricaine Obama black--including your undies should you choose to wear them, the penalty being a criminal sentence of 25 years. 3) Every provider you see must wear Hurricaine Obama black thigh highs and Hurricaine Black bra and bikini panties and a Hurricaine Little Obama Black dress.
Remember this: Hurricaine Obama black is the new black.
The cool thing about the internet is that you can find just about any news you want, so long as you know where to look. Of course, that also has it's downside. It means that boneheaded conspiracy theories can play along side real news.
You can try doing some experiments in just how much news is manipulated and dumbed-down for the US public. Some people are able to tune into CNN and also can tune into CNN International, which is what CNN distributes to the rest of the world. Flip back and forth between those two stations and you'll be shocked.
Or you can compare the cover of Time Magazine for their US edition and their editions for the rest of the world. For some reason, it's only the US public who gets a different cover, and each and every time it's to promote fluff pieces.
What people like to call the "Golden Age" of news were actually some of the darkest. When you only had ABC, NBC and CBS to give you information.
Now you have thousands of choices, but remember, with great freedom come great responsibility. You have to decide what information is closest to the truth.
The ONLY WISH I have is that folks in the media were honest about whether they were a PUNDIT or a JOURNALIST. I have no problems with Limbaugh, Hannity, Rhodes or Colmes as long as they are upfront and say they are Pundits and pushing for an ideology. To the best of my knowledge they do. What I "HATE" are people like Dan Rather who claim to be professional Journalists and fail the impartiality test.

I think we have gone a little too far with insisting on impartiality. Impartiality shouldn't replace journalism. For instance, if one side says "the theory of gravity is true", you shouldn't give equal time to the side that says "the theory of gravity is false".
There really is a right answer and a wrong answer.
We've also replaced journalism with punditry. While I think there is a place for opinion pieces in the news, I don't think it should take center stage as it so often does these days.
I think there is a real and honorable tradition in the field of journalism, and it's a tradition that the modern day news media has been largely forgotten. It's been replaced by, as Jon Stewart put it, "laziness and sensationalism".
Not to beat a dead horse, as everyone here should know how I feel about capitalism, but I think a lot of the problems with our media has a lot to do with the profit motive. The way to get people to watch the news is to sensationalize it. Make not very important stories seem more important than they really are. Investigative journalism is expensive, so it's easier to save money by doing fluff pieces and covering celebrities or court trials.
Just think of how much air time was dedicated to covering the Casey Anthony trial. What if that air time was dedicated to explain in better detail what was happening in Afghanistan. Or what was happening in the economy. Or the state of our infrastructure. Or the challenges of our vets coming home. Or any number of things more important than 12 people deciding the fate of one woman.
I know a lot of conservatives were upset with the moderator at the 2nd Presidential debate, but unlike the other two moderators, this woman was a real journalist who knew her stuff, and asked pressing and challenging questions to both candidates. Compare that to the bone-headed tripe you get from the overwhelming majority of today's "journalists" who are nothing more than talking heads reading off a teleprompter.

The Obama Administration answer back to him is laughable.
