"Dismal projections by the Congressional Budget Office in Washington suggest that in the fiscal year starting in October, 28 million people in the US will be using government food stamps to buy essential groceries, the highest level since the food assistance programme was introduced in the 1960s."

have an ounce of self-discipline to go hungry!

They never think that 300,000 food stamps could buy a bandoleer that might include the round that kills some Iraqi bystander!

We're on the brink of currency melt-down, famine and chaos in America as the rest of the world unwittingly unites against us and a day's wages equate to a loaf of bread...

"The Great Depression" will pale in comparison to what's about to happen to us this time... We have NOTHING left to sell or borrow against that the rest of the world wants... We've SQUANDERED our wealth, resorces, industrial and technological advantages to the point of no return... What are we going to do when the morgage industry crisis finally reaches critical-mass, and pulls the stock market down with it and drives crude oil out of our reach as the dollar sinks to pennies against the Euro?? There' won't BE ANY FUCKING WELFARE FOR OBAMA TO HAND OUT!!

I wonder if Russia will send ships full of grain to us when we implode like we did for them?? FAT FUCKIN' CHANCE!

"Public-sector unions protect the dismal status quo. Detroit high schools graduate just a third of their students, according to an estimate by Michigan State University. But when a philanthropist offered to spend $200 million to create 15 new charter high schools, teachers staged a walk-out. Mayor Kilpatrick spurned the offer. These failing schools throw kids with no skills into a struggling economy in an environment characterized by social breakdown.
No matter what Mayor Kilpatrick did with his chief of staff or how many lies he has told, this is the true scandal of Detroit -- and too many American cities. In the wake of the controversy over Rev. Wright, Barack Obama called for a national conversation on race. But we talk about race incessantly already, and Mayor Kilpatrick will carry on his own dialogue by playing on black fears with charges of "selective prosecution."
What would better serve the interests of African-Americans and the country is a national conversation about good urban governance -- how to crack down on crime, reform the schools and free the economy from sclerotic government. Detroit awaits it, as its disgraced mayor twists in the wind.

Wait a minute!  It's Obama's fault!  No, it's Hillary Clinton's fault!  I mean, Bill Clinton!!  If Bill Clinton hadn't gotten a blowjob, he'd be as pissy as the rest of us, so it's HIS fault!

28 million still makes up LESS than 10% of our population. The remaining 90% of our citizens do not need assistance. That is a FAR cry from the Great Depression when half the country was out of work and requiring assistance.

The sky is falling chicken little, but its little more than a light rain, compared to the hurricane you want to make it out to be.

And by the way, if anyone really wants to know when inflation began increasing, and unemployment started climbing, take a look at when the new minimum wage that the newly elected Dems passed went into effect. Inflation and new unemployment claims jumped sharply within a month of when minimum wage went up.

After the wild headline the statistics they cited spoke of a jobless rate coming close to 5% (Gasp!)and food stamps rising because of a program to make it EASIER to get on them, etc.  Miserable unibomber types like Ben Dover and unhappy, frustrated liberals like Jacko will always look for disaster.

It's a couple of weak financial quarters people! It happens every 5 years or so and the reaction is always the same by the chicken littles.

and I chose to go the other direction since it was OBVIOUS since the early 90's that America has been jerking off the dog to feed the cat... Well now what? Now that Uncle Sam has financially jerked himself until he ran out of body-fluids, we're fucked, and YOU DID IT! (I wasn't even born yet when your fucking Democrap-generation was laying the groundwork for this unsustainable system of wealth-redistribution! (At least my igloo is paid for, and not dependent upon the grid... So really when this all melts down, only YOU will be FUCKED! But why wait? you can go fuck yourself now, "preemptively"...

... are getting some form of trickle-down assistance, either through corprate-welfare subsidizing their shit-jobs, or some form of energy assistance, or farm subsidies, etc... Uncle Sam is a spendin' fool when it comes to wealth redistribution... And while we still seem a far cry from the great depression, we are 100,000 time MORE OVER EXTENDED as a nation now than we were then, when this ship goes down, it's not coming back up... Pehaps China will buy us @ 10 cents on the dollar at an international bankruptcy auction in 5 years?

The problem with America is not too much diversity.  Diversity is cool.

The problem is ARTIFICIALLY MAINTAINING diversity, instead of letting maladapted morons select themselves out.   Overarmed drunks get beaten to hamburger by mobs when they shoot up the neighborhood.  It's the way of the world.

Hell yes. The shirkers on food stamps are eating far better than 99% of our population did just a few years ago. "If you haven't got time to work, how the hell do you expect them to take time to cook. Give them free tv dinners, pizza, etc., so they do not need to interrupt their daily routine."

(even if he's a scared little girl masquerading as Ted Nugent) - your big house, etc is merely a fixed committment to an economy that depends on fragile issues way above your ability to affect.

When George the Dry Drunk starts pumping half the economy downrange into some sandpit on the other side of the world, and bailing out bankers who made gazillions in dumb-ass loans, something important in the economy is very likely to break.

I'm willing to accept the Iraq war as the Republican idea of population control, except that they aren't any good at it.  Given the costs, they could be killing many times as many people. (/sarcasm, for you simple folks)  We're talking about an administration that is at least the nominal personification of the national majority, and they are seriously deranged, to say the least.

WTF is loan counseling going to do? Most, not all of the people presently facing forclosure never should have been approved for mortages in the first place.

Don't blame the greedy Repulicans for this one, loaning money to people who can't pay is a PC, touchy feeley, liberal concept. It is also a  perfect example of why greedy is much preferable to stupid.

were by definition liberals.

Your argument is that the minute Bear Stearns gets a Federal bailout from a Republican administration, they become liberals??  Is that it?   Unless, of course, they happen to be contributing to YOUR campaign.

Loaning money to people who can't pay was pretty much the result of de-regulation.   Ponzi accounting is a Republican concept.   The Democrats may not be able to see a half-century in advance, but the fucking Republicans can't see more than a quarter in advance.

This one is NOT about policitics.

It was more like greedy bankers who were reaping hugh profits from underwriting and re-packing the questionable loans and selling them to equally greedy investors who allegedly did not fully appreciate the risk. They all deserve to get screwed!!

As far as politics goes, most of the major debt this country is now saddle with comes this current Republican President, the moron with the tiny weenie and the tinier brain. His ecomonic policies are equal to that of his just-as-stupid fathers, i.e., non-existant!! Remember the Republican's economic motto: "Why pay today when you can stick future generations with mind-boggling debt."
