In one fell swoop Cheney has weakened the Republican hold on decency.  You might say, this is going to lead to a certain energy drain with Bush's base-- the Fundamentalist Christians.  They might show a little less energy getting out bed to vote in November.  And if only a half of one percent don't make it, Bush may be toast.  It's going to be hard for televangelists to talk around this one.

Aaron Burr ruined his political career by killing Alexander Hamilton.  Since you've made the comparison, the same thing might soon apply to Cheney... and Bush.

So, if you think some of the comments on this website are inappropriate or indecent, well... at least you can take comfort from the fact that we don't hold any high office in the government of the United States, unlike a certain person (1) who was caught changing the tone in Washington last week. But Dick Cheney wasn't the only idiot last week. There were also People Who Can't Handle The Truth (2) who are still pooping their collective pants over Michael Moore's new movie. And speaking of pants - or the lack thereof - check out former Republican Senate Candidate Jack Ryan (3) and conservative talk-show host Jon Matthews (10). Enjoy, and as usual, don't forget the key!

Patrick slandered Cheney.  He called him a criminal, a liar, etc. The very next day, he goes up to Cheney and wants to joke around and shake Cheney's hand.  Cheney demands an explanation and Lahey doesn't say anything.  He doesn't respond and talked about something else. So Cheney said f**k you!!  I think it's awesome!!!!!!
Andrew Jackson killed 3 men in 3 separate duels over much less.  Aaron Burr killed Alexander Hamilton in a duel.  In the antebellum south, there were so many duels on Sunday mornings over besmirched honor that it must have seemed like a regional pastime for the aristocracy.
I'm glad Cheney said it!!!!! Yeeaahhaa

It's time he showed some backbone.  I wish George Bush would show a little more backbone.  He's trying to be friends and nice to the Democrats who hate his guts.  He's trying to win them over when they hate him so much that they would never vote for him no matter what.
If you want to read the most awesome book on Aaron Burr, go to the library and check out this-  Aaron Burr: The Proud Pretender  by Holmes Alexander.  It was written way back in the 1920's or early 30's.  Alexander's writing ability was right up there w/Robert Graves.

I think Gore Vidal has the most read book about Burr...

We shall have to see at election time whether the born-again conservative constituency is willing to smile on Chenney's phallic verbage.  If they do, it will be the first time in history they have.  Maybe Chenney can repent, pull a Jimmy Swaggart or even a Larry Flint.  We shall also see if those impressed by the show of Chenney's extra testerone will go to the polls in numbers that counterbalance the Christian/Discouraged.

The spirit of the senate is that you compete hard and then you are civil.  Leahy's (sp?) charges were pretty standard stuff.  claims you have all heard before about Haliburton.  As the Pres of the Company, Cheney was open to the accusations.  He's a public figure-  pretty hard to slander.  The attacks were not personal, they were on the character of the too cosey relationship between the Admin and the company.

Cheney should have risen above.  Didn't.  Not a huge deal- but indicative of the contempt the admin has for anyone who disagrees.

Still not a huge deal either way.  Cheney's pride about it does indicate a immature attitude, but not worth getting high over or low over.

There is a huge difference in cursing someone in a private way than using the same language in a press interview as did Kerry.  Nobody would even of known about Chenny telling Leahy to "go fuck himself" if Leahy wasn't such a weenie and went screaming with his hair on fire to the press.  He is that little rat shit that we all hated in elementary school - the tattletale!

And to Zin, since you claim to be a atheist, you might not realize that even the most hardened Christians "know" that they are sinners, that nobodies perfect.  I find your scenario of Christians turning on the Bush/Chenny ticket pretty far fetched, especially considering that most of them would have responded in a similar manner.  With the immediate future of our country at risk, I don't think the religious right will be oversleeping in November.

Personally, I think Leahy should go fuck himself, the guy is a socialist, a suck butt of the Kennedy clan and a baffoon.

That's entirely more reasonable than to tell someone to fuck themself.

One is simple observation of something that the other person HAD done.  The other is telling someone to abuse themself, a specific curse AT THEM.

Actually, what Kerry said was designed to get attention.  In fact, most people actually think Kerry will say what he thinks they want to hear.  Real leadership - Not!!!

Good heavens- you appear to have noticed that Kerry is a POLITICIAN.

I think you will find few among the Dems here who think Kerry is a perfect person or the greatest candidate ever.

The Great thing is- You Can't Fall Off the Floor!  Many of us think a trained chimp might make a better president than GW (in fact many of us think he just might be an un-trained chimp)!!

I am a Patriot, and I can't watch GW.  I just get all sick and melancholy thinking this droog is in power!  I would Not feel so about JEB, nor did I about his dad, both of whom I did not agree with, but who I respected.

Add to that his Wolf in Sheeps' clothing act (come in like a Centrist- govern like a reactionary), and you have the genesis of the antipathy so many here have for him.

Frankly, Kerry could be a lot worse- AND STILL be vastly preferrable to GW!

Couldn't have said it better myself except he doesn;t have much hair to catch on fire.

when the Dems were in charge because he revealed classified matters.  Even they know him to be a self-righteous bag of hot air.

Right you are, Southern Man.  He actually leaked the stuff to aid Communist forces in Central America.  What a disgrace.  And his conduct in promoting Bolshevik judges and stifling good judges like Robert Bork is too much.

BTW, Leahy never stifled Bork.  He merely helped keep him off the Supreme Court.  Bork can speak his opinion wherever he wishes, so he is not stifled.  He simply can't alter the law of the land, directly.

BTW, which judges that Leahy helped put in place are Bolsheviks?  And please give us evidence.  Not that they are Prgressive, but that they are in fact Bolshevik.  We are all waiting with baited breath.

glad to see you guys are still freakin' about the Bolsheviks.  kind of like your party- stuck in a cold-war mentality.

The threats have grown up and are more complex and nuanced.  Bush is still trying to figure out nuance and whether there is a french word for it!

While you guys are at it- can you make sure that Bush keeps us secure from marauding crusaders?  We also need his help to keep us safe from the godless vikings!

Hmmm! Since George W. appears to fancy himself as one of the crusaders, possibly even Richard Coeur de Leon, he undoubtedly believes he is protecting us from the godless Saracens.
