which deal with extending background checks etc is something I actually agree with.

I heard that Diane Feinstein (D-CA) is going to introduce the assault ban issue in a separate amendment, which of course, wouldn't go anywhere..

Reid knows that it's going to be difficult to hold onto the Senate in 2014. And while Dems in the House can represent small districts where opposing the inherent right of self-defense might win you votes, when you represent an entire state you're going to piss a lot of people off by trying to take their rights away from them.

The last thing Reid wants are a bunch of irate and eager to vote gun owners come 2014.

Given all this, and the reality that even by some miracle the AWB gets passed in the Senate, Boehner won't even take it up for a vote in the House. And even if he did, it would fail and fail badly.

So while Feinstein can bluster all she wants, sitting from her safe seat, and while the administration can bluster, not having to worry about another election, the reality is that taking away people's rights isn't very popular.

filibuster it in the Senate. The bill now as it is will most likely pass Senate.  The House is another story...

Do you have a link to the rest of the bill? Are "High-Cap" magazines still on the table for prohibition?

although I do understand that is the present jargon of the left. And no, that provision is not presently in the bill to be considered by the full Senate. It is thought by some that Reid may insert the provision at the last minute or at least allow Feinstein the opportunity to offer it as an amendment. Either way if it is included it will almost certainly (and hopefully) kill the bill in the House if not in the Senate.

Rendering the vast majority of existing handguns, illegal is just stupid. Even with grandfathering, they become illegal at some later date. If a cop potentially needs more than 10 rounds for his self defense, no one can offer any reasonable reason why I don't.

Aside from universal background checks and armed guards at schools, any gun control provision would likely be filibustered in the Senate.

they are NOT part of the new Bill to be introduced in Senate.. May be part of just the amendment, but not 100% sure.  Will have to check..

by the skin of its teeth. At least it wouldn't be filibustered...
