There were allegations that Reagan representatives urged Iran not to release the 52 hostages until after the 1980 election. Had they been released before the election, it might have swayed more votes and the win to the incumbent Jimmy Carter.  The allegations were that Reagan reps negotiated better deals for Iran (violation of the Logan Act) if Reagan was elected and got the hostages released.

Iran released the hostages 20 minutes after Reagan completed his inaugural address.  Damn fast negotiating for a newly minted President! (Only Trump has ever negotiated and closed such a great deal faster or better. At least that's what Trump will claim if NK ever releases the hostages.)

There was never any direct proof of the allegations but Banisadr, Iranian President  during that time, has stated that there were such direct negotiations with the Reagan team to prolong the hostage crisis.
