"Can't we just put the finger-pointing behind us and move on to inmplementing solutions?"
Of course, the fair thing would be to ask if they would have the same view if 9/11 had happened on the watch of a Democratic president.
I am somewhat surprised that there is no postings here on this! Am I in a time warp?
Well, here is my 2 cents ... this report only qualifies to be named "Politically Correct." Nobody is to blame, no one is responsible, we just didn't have the proper structure and procedures in place, in spite of a $400 billion/year Department of Defense. And, then 3,000 of our people died.
I hope a European colleage here can refresh our memory. In early 70s, before the Watergate, Willie Brandt, then German Chancellor, resigned from his position. Why? Because it turned out his secretary was a spy for the Russians.
His reason was "the man at the top is responsible." I am afraid if something like this happens here, we are going to have a blue ribbon commission, then concluding this was due to inappropriate procedures, no one to blame!
a majority of the report isn't worth the paper its written on!! The republiCON cronies protected their party and the democrat cronies protected their party. 3000 Americans died and not a single fucking person is responsible?? There you have it folks, bi-partisanship!! Im sruprised they didn't go so far as to say that the silver bullet from 1963 escaped and hit both the towers and the planes we saw were just an illusion!!
It never ceases to amaze me how this congress has an ounce of credibility with the public. Martha stewart lies to the feds so she goes to prison, and when the feds lie to the public they get re-elected!! This congress who for 8 fucking years had a bi-partisan agreement not to file ethics charges against the other party!! Un fucking believable!!
The public in this greatest democracy can't even get its own leaders to tell them the truth, but we are going to civilize and democratize the middle east. I bet most people still don't know where Iraq is on the map!!
where Admiral Kimmel & General Short were blamed for the attack on Pearl Harbor & subsequently relieved of their duties while not giving any blame to FDR, Secretary of State Hull, Secretary of War Stimson, (& others) for the attack.....
But I think their rank was restored in 2000 posthumously??....
Point is, these two officers were crucified for attack on Pearl Harbor, & no one got anywhere the blame for 9/11.......
government functions, are likely to be ignored.
The Republicans on the committee made a concerted and largely successful effort to minimize the damage it would do to the sitting president in an election year.
Politicians protected politicians, as they generally do.
The losers were the American public.
anything that blame and recriminations are put on the backburner or left to others who find such things to be valueable.
I think the Committee felt that the dishing out, and dodging of blame would not be in short supply anyways so they just decided to focus on solutions.
What a concept.

And please tell us, would you have been this quiet if Condi Rice had stuffed stolen secret papers from the National Archive down her panties?
In all lifes difficulties you can either spend your energy assigning blame or get to work! I say we learn what we can and get busy, playing the blame game is counterproductive and redirects the energy and resources needed to protect ourselves from these fuck ups!
When we were attacked, we were united. Then the lunatic Howard Dean dreamed up the idea that Bush knew and the left, in their hatred have seemed to change sides. Pathetic.
since they have had the White House for nearly four years.
I am afraid Bush will have to run on his record.
Judge for yourself whether or not you think he is making the claim that Bush knew. (It's at about the 43 minute mark)
Diane Rehm: "Why do you think he [Bush] is suppressing that [Sept. 11] report?"
Howard Dean: "I don't know. There are many theories about it. The most interesting theory that I've heard so far — which is nothing more than a theory, it can't be proved — is that he was warned ahead of time by the Saudis. Now who knows what the real situation is, but the trouble is by suppressing that kind of information you lead to those kinds of theories, whether they have any truth to them or not. And eventually they get repeated as fact. So I think the president is taking a great risk by suppressing the key information that needs to go to the Kean Commission."

purposely "planted" this "theory" about Bush being warned ahead of time by the Saudis simply to create doubts and thus advance his own agenda. That the President of the U.S. could know in advance about 9/11 and sit back and do nothing is absurd, and the fact that Dean even mentioned something like this was a clear example why he is totally unfit to be dogcatcher, let alone President. None of the other major Democratic candidates picked up on this nonsense because, unlike Dean, they used their brains instead just shooting off their mouths.

The answer likely lies in the guy who was heading the investigation: Philip Zelikow, Executive Director of the commission staff was part of Bush's transition team and was responsible for restructuring the national security operations and demoting Richard Clarke to sub-cabinet level status, effectively removing him from contact with the President and cabinet secretaries. He is a close friend of Condoleeza Rice, served on the National Security Council during the first Bush administration and was a director of the Aspen Strategy Group, a foreign policy think tank which also had Rice, Cheney and Wolfowitz as members. Not sure they could have found someone with more conflicts to lead the investigation if they tried.
Henry Kissinger I believe was first choice for chairman was he?
I knew this thing was rigged, didn't know the "mechanics" of it ...
Thanks again.
The only reason Clinton didn't end up with a cap in his ass or in a plane crash is that we were out of lone nuts, and besides, the American public, stupid, ignorant and pliant idiots they are, even they were starting to catch on. So the best we could do is impeach. The plane crash thingie was getting a little old hat as well, and besides, that's reserved with Senators who think they're really the government and not us. I mean, let's start with John Tower, and go to Carnahan and Wellstone.
You folks seem to have the wrong idea behind these sort of commissions. The idea is not to stir up too much shit, make sure the truth gets obfuscated as bureaucratically efficient as possible and move on while being in complete and summary denial of alternative viewpoints (if you really want to know what went down, I suggest globalresearch.ca).
I must say, I'm really impressed with how the media has brainwashed the masses. Either you're a patriot (read: right-wing nut case), or a liberal commie/pinko/fag. Kind of like Germany in the 30s and early 40s. W's grandaddy's kind of folks, if I recall.
